I'm going to have to vote for my 386, followed in a close second by my 24. My 3" 386 is scandium and titanium, it weighs 18.5 ozs and has a feather light trigger to match. It is as close to the perfect carry revolver as there is.
Oddly, I like both of the above a lot, but my 625 .45 Colt MG and 29-3 are my favorites. They have excellent triggers as well. There's just something about throwing a big chunk of lead down range and knowing not much is going to take a follow-up round.

I think all this means.....

Good observation. Mine are all excellent, even the relatively new 642. I don't think I've ever handled a S&W revolver that didn't have at least a good trigger pull, most being better than that.
Out of my small sample (4 K frames, 3 J frames) it's the '51 22 Combat Masterpiece (Pre-18).
It's especially sweet both DA and SA. It may have had some work done on it as it has a target hammer. I haven't lettered it and I don't know if the TH is original, so it might have had some trigger work.
Smith has made at least four internal configurations in their actions in the hand ejector models from 1899 to now. At least that I can think of at the moment. Most common are those made before WWll, post WWll, and then the new actions with MIM parts made after 2000 or so. The factory makes parts for the newer MIM action guns, I do not think they make, or even have parts for post WWll guns. Some parts are interchangeable, and those are still available. You already have one of the MIM part guns. While very little goes wrong with a Smith action, and they are very durable, it is a consideration in purchasing a gun you plan to shoot a lot with magnum loads!!

What George said. I'd add that the action on the Triple Lock is as good as the guns George mentioned. Even the M&Ps from that era are marvelous! The pre war long action is just a different beast than the later guns. I've really not experienced anything stock that can compare.

Hard to beat the TL and RM
Colleagues, I have to vote in favor of the triple lock and the registered magnum for smoothness. The .38 and .22 outdoorsmen and the heavy duty are about as good as are the M&Ps from the 1930s to WWII. I refer to this latter period (1930s to WWII) as the Golden Era of S&W.
