Smith model 19 with Colt Python barrel, found one in a Pawn shop, blued 4" barrel, really nice condition. Any thoughts on the value?

It's a personal taste thing. No established market. So I'll throw out the first WAG and say $600. It's not worth it to me at that price, but you asked.

That's like saying I found a Ford hot rod with a Chevy engine. What's it worth? A WHOLE lot more info is needed including condition, builder, other features, etc. It could be a treasure or just a bunch of mismatched parts.

They are asking $525 otd. I had one before, a beauty, matter of fact, I bought it here on the forum, nickle finish, action as smooth as butter, shoulda, never let it go! Anyway, I think I'll go for this one, I'll post some pic's after I get it.

Back in the late 70's, I had the old Davis company make me a "Smolt" by installing a 4" Python barrel on a Model 67. I don't recall if they used nickel Python barrel and then bead blasted it, but they somehow got the barrel finish close to the finish of the Smith frame.

It was a great shooter and definitely one Gun I should have never sold!

Same here, mine was a high polished nickel, with an action that was unbelievable! If I could find it, I'd buy it back in a minute.

THey were supposedly the hot ticket for PPC (IIRC) back in the late70s/early 80s. A well done one is easily worth the price listed. A badly done one is worth about $1.67.

A really nice Smython here in California would easily fetch $1200 now. I bought one about 10 years back for about $800. As for values in free states, it's lower but the Smythons do have real collector appeal.

Depends who did it. This is a Jim Clark built one that is a literal work of art. There are also some real abortions out there.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat for that price, if it is in any kind of shape. There was a thread here a couple of weeks ago (Is a Smython really more accurate than a S&W?) where I posted photo's of mine that I had built back in the 70's. Mine was built by Davis, after he built my model 10 PPC revolver that I competed with for years. I would not part with mine, it is well executed, accurate and a connection to good times in the past.

I have one from Germany. MY father in laws. He was an early combat shooter and knew what he was doing. The barrel and frame have and antler stamp on them. Anybody know what that means?

the antlers stamp is a German proof mark. US guns imported into Germany get proof tested. I bought a 629 there in the late '80's that has them... ETA - or if it was assembled in Germany it may have had the same requirement...

Any good smiths still building these? I have a couple of spare Python barrels...

Clark Custom Guns were doing those back in the 70's. Jim Cl;ark Sr. was working with Smith on ideas to improve the Model 19. Those efforts led to the 586/686.

I have not seen one of those in a LONG time....

IIRC the twist rate on a Model 19 was 1/18, the Colt was 1/16 and would shoot 148 Wadcutter ammo much better.

For that price a) the seller doesn't know what he has b) it would already be residing in my safe...
