With all the vast knowledge found here, can anyone tell me how snake chaps are sized??? I can't hear them any more and thought it prudent to secure a pair of chaps of some sort. Plus, Copperheads don't rattle, far as I know. :) Oh yeah, since I am at it, anyone have a favorite?? THANKS!! :)

So far, as I know, snakes don't wear chaps. I prefer black leather chaps myself:p.
I have seen copperheads, black snakes, and garder snakes,rattle. if there are dry leaves on the ground, it can be very convincing. Usually it's just to get your attention.
If I have a favorite snake, it's got to be the Eastern Hog Nose Snake. A quick search of Youtube an you'll se why. I can't wait to catch one again.
 
tall leather boots work 4 me ,i know chaps are better but they can make u hot but so can the tall leather boots. my favorite snake is a Python

Try getting a pair of ww2 korean era canvas leggings, wore them in the 1950s to protect us from the snakes at Camp Pendleton.
 
I much prefer Snake Boots over Chaps. I find chaps to be very bulky and uncomfortable. I can't get to them right now, however, I bought a really good pair of Snake Boots two years ago that go 3/4s of the way up my lower leg towards the knee. They cost $180.00 but they are great! I don't recall the brand.
 
Snow on the ground and we're talking snakes. I hear you on not hearing them anymore.

Geez why wasn't my Ma following me around with the peach tree limb when I shot all those pistols sans hearing protection?

I think boots would protect best.

Walking 2nd in line is even better.

I don't think I'd trust canvas leggings. We had many dogs and cats come home at night with a 1/2 swollen head from a copperhead bite. Cat hide is tough, copperheads fangs seemed to penetrate it well enough.

Copperheads, my Dad's farm was on top of the bluffs where 2 rivers met. Lots of small caves and holes for them to den up for the winter.
Until Dad bought hogs and put them in the 40 acres between us and the bluffs we we loaded with copperheads, watch where you put your feet, watch what you pick up. Snakes everywhere.

One morning we were a little late for the school bus and were running down the mountain, my sister was in front of me so I could grab her if she tripped. Too late I saw she was going to step close to a huge copperhead sunning in the track of the lane. She hit it dead center and I saw it twist, spin and strike at her, she was already off hem as he struck. I jumped over him, could not find a rock close. I broke his back with a large world history book. Pages flew everywhere. I finished him off with a rock. I was going to skin him that night to make a belt but a varmint had taken him. This is one of many, many copperhead stories from our time one the farm.
 
Chippewa makes excellent snake boots right here in the USA. I have an old pair of zipper backed 18 inchers that have actually been struck by a rattler once. Dove hunting in a Mesquite thicket with high foxtail grass growing everywhere. Paying more attention to the doves than the ground. He popped me and took off into the thick before I could even get a bead on him.

I'm in the same town as J.R. I went turkey hunting toward the end of Oct this year and heard plenty of movement in those leafs. I saw lot's of chipmunks but I'm sure some of it were snakes - those long periods of slow movement. The chipmunks run fast and short distances. By the way, no turkeys. :(
 
I have a pair, but haven't worn them in a while. Mine weren't that uncomfortable.

I believe Cabelas and Bass Pro Shop carry them.

I have had a pair of snake boots from Bass Pro that I wore for years. They were Rocky brand with a side zipper. I liked them but the soles finally broke down and separated. I went up to dunham's store and bought my son and I snake gaiters. They go on over your boots and legs up to your knees. I think they cost $59 for a pair.
 
I, on occasion, wore some cordura sting ray leggings when wade fishing.
They should work for those snake bites.
