I decided to try the snubby postal match today, I brought 4 snubbies;

.22/32 Kit Gun
Taurus 94
Ruger LCR .357
SW 442-2

This months rules are for 10 shots DAO at 50ft, so the rimfires weren't submitted since I shot them SA. I did submit my center fire results from the DAO revolvers.

With all that in mind and somewhat limited ammo, I did some warm up shooting with the two kit guns between my 19yr old nephew and myself. Ammo was .22lr Blazer which chronos high 800s in the little Pre 34 and mid 900s from the Taurus.
Both the 'kit guns' demonstrate great accuracy for me, despite their short bbls and smallish adj sights.

While it's fashionable to knock Taurus makes, I have been very happy with the few I own, including this 94. I shoots every bit as well as the S&W, holds 9 shots and has a better trigger profile....i like its smooth face and slightly greater width. The tradeoff is a heavier, shorter DA pull and less refined surfaces inside the cyl frame, making for slightly stickier cyl release. It has approx four bricks worth through it, solid ignition and function. Grips are Excaliber walnut 'boot style'.

At 50ft, 10 shots held 3.5", with 9 of those going under 2". I did adjust the sights over after I shot this.:D

The .22/32 Kit Gun dates 1955, I bought it several years ago...low $300 range IIRC, it has some storage rash on the cylinder, but otherwise very nice mechanicals and finish. I installed the Spegel Cocobolos on it.
Compared to the Taurus, it's a slicker, smoother shooting gun. It has a better SA and DA trigger, although still slightly heavy for a J frame...likely a 'rimfire ignition thing'.
The older flat latch and small adj sights give it class, IMO, and it shoots as good as it looks. The Taurus does tend to average 50-60fps higher numbers over the chrono, though, but it isn't a 'slow' gun either, I believe the Taurus may just be faster than avg for 2" snubbies. It's one of those weird things you discover when dorking around with handguns and chronographs over the years.
It held 10 into 3.25".

Too bad I shot SA, or these would have been pretty solid entries for the match. Dummy.

The DAO snubbies.
The 442-2 is my every day gun, in a cargo pocket. It's at about 2000rnds. Well broken in action, it's smoother than the newish LCR and slightly smaller and lighter. It takes speedloads a bit better too with the spegel style boot grips. It's too bad they dropped those at S&W, they better than the new ones. I haven't chrono'd the Starfire ammo in this gun, but I suspect the typical remfedchester milquetoast performance, maybe mid 800s fps. Sad for 125gr and hard to accept as being remotely '+P'. Bad subject for me....

The LCR is a recent acquisition, I like it. Probably lighter still trigger than the 442, but a little grittier ( probably from being new) and a slight tick at the break- but cleaning up with use. The sights are slightly bigger than the fixed J frames, good visibility for a snubby. Lockup feels comparable to a J frame, good, but not 'vault door like' as you come to expect from GP100 or SP101 guns. Recoil with full power .357 is substantial, but manageable. With this stuff....cake.

So, I made one effort each gun; an LCR .357 and my trusty 442-2, both using the PMC Starfire 125gr +p ammo...I wanted something that made clean holes and I'm used to defense ammo giving me more consistent accuracy.

I had something nice going with the 442, but #5 blew open the group...then #10 guaranteed a crappy result.

I faired better with the LCR, the slightly better sights helped, esp in a dimly lit indoor range (wades). I consider triggers between the two guns a wash, despite many really liking the LCR's. They're just different.

I'm pissed about my 442 effort, but I set aside the Starfires for this, so with 20 rounds I wasn't going to be able to do more than one try per gun... and I'm keeping the 135gr Gold Dots dots for carry ( the loaded rounds near the target).
The LCR is about typical for me, sometimes I do better...outdoors I can do this at 25yrds on better days.
I love this idea of a snubby match. Tons of people carry these things, but only a few really try to learn them.
