So do any of you AIWB a K frame?

I tried the "Magnum" carry one time in the small of the back with a 1911. IT took about 30 steps before the pistol was sliding down the inside of my pant leg.

I ain't stickin' a gun in from of "my gun"!! No way-no how! :D

Aside from which, how the hell do you guys who Appendix carry sit for more than 5 minutes?

With an airweight J frame, I have no issues at all. But with the bigger guns... that might be more of an issue. Especially with a longer barrel. But it must work for some people. Which is why I asked. I wanted to get peoples feedback.

I do with a 4" running a sideguard holster AIWB

Old setup without the sweat guard

new setup sideguard holster

First off, that is a beautiful 19. I love how Stag or white grips look on a blued gun.

Secondly, that is impressive that you carry a 4"er. I don't think I could sit down. I'm not as big as you though, I don't think. I'm pretty small. 5"8" and 135 pounds. I used to be 170 before lyme disease though. Grrrrrrrr.... I still don't think I could've carried a 4"er though.....

Thanks for taking the time to post your set up. I am thinking I MIGHT be able to get away with a round butt 10, 2"er. I would like to try one someday. I've got a fund going right now and selling some stuff. And if my bills get covered and don't gobble up my fund, I may be able to get one sometime this year. Or maybe my Bday next year. (January)

OK, wow, I just sort of had an epiphany.... I thought I've tried this before but I guess not.

I got home from Grocery shopping today and thought, hmmmm.... this is gonna seem ridiculous but I'm gonna try my 6" model 19 out. I don't have a holster so I just slipped it in my belt. And you know what, it's really not bad at all. If the back of the cylinder lines up with the belt line, I can actually sit down just fine. And despite there being a huge grip, it conceals pretty well just standing there. I think a 4" with a round butt would really be doable. I think the square butt would be a lot harder or me to conceal moving around, if I wanted to just wear T shirts but the former might be just fine in the summer.

Anyways.... I'm kind of psyched. I thought I needed a 2" for sure but I don't think that's the case. I'm sort of blown away. I only walked around in the house and sat down for a little bit but strange thing is it didn't feel all that heavy either. It's crazy to think but I think with the right grips and right holster I could probably even carry that 6"er. LOL.

I think maybe my dreams of a tapered barrel 4" model 10 might be a better fit for more duties than just home defense.... A 3"er or 2"er might be more comfy longer periods of time though....

Sorry if I'm grossing you out with my un manly physique but I figured what the heck:

I'm glad it worked for you. The other thing about any IWB carry is the friction of the holster on your skin reduces the weight you feel on your belt.

To me, an N frame OWB feels pretty heavy but is doable; when carried IWB the same gun feels like it weighs half as much.

Yeah, I've never OWB'd ever. Any gun. Not for concealment. It's always been 4 oclock IWB or AIWB. 442, Colt DS, G26, HiPower, Beretta M9. Those are the only guns I've carried concealed. I've only carried the 442 AIWB though.

Looking at the OPs picture again -

1. The gun will conceal better if you put magnas and a BK-grip on the gun. That is the best setup for concealment, and I love how it fits my hand.

2. The key feature in a true AIWB holster is a spacer/claw on the grip side of the holster. This spacer rotates the grip into your side and helps it conceal even better. With revolver holsters, we are very lucky to find a purpose built AIWB holster, and even then they may not work as well as they could. I have recently started gluing/screwing on a cork to act as the spacer - it's not attractive, but it works. I plan to get with my holster maker and see if he can come up with a more elegant fix for the problem.

That Side Guard Tuck Clip looks sweet...might have to get one for my J frame... maybe one for my Model 13 too. I wonder if there's any advantage to choosing the clip over the snap? Could the snap possibly be more comfortable? I could see both being useful.

Since I've been carrying my HiPower lately since my 442 is back at Smith, I think I'm slowly getting to the idea that I could maybe even do a 4" 10. I've got an opportunity at an LGS somewhat close to trade one of my autos for a 10-5 and if the deal is right, I might go for it. I will need a holster though... Which is part of the dilemma. More money spent and there are not a lot of options out there.

If I traded for another J frame I could use the same holster. So.. there's that.

I occasionally carry my 3" 686+ in a JM Custom Kydex holster, or a Triple K leather holster. More comfortable and concealable than you'd expect.

The way pants fit me I don't appendix carry any type handgun. I'm 6' tall but short waisted. A 2 " anything would poke me. I have no problem w a 4" N or a 5" 1911 IWB behind my hipbone.

I have a friend who packs that same set up. We are both prefer revolvers. He likes the 686 and I like the GP100. The thing about large frame .357 snubs is you have a service-target sort of concealment gun with great sights, trigger and enough weight to make shooting magnums fairly pleasant. It is nice having a revolver on you that allow hits at 50 yards if need be.

I had a probably too long reply typed out and somehow inadvertently deleted it. So I'll just say I've carried AIWB for a long time before it became the in thing to do. I've carried numerous size and brands of pistols and revolvers AIWB. Glocks of all sizes some with lights and RMR's, Hi-powers, 1911's, CZ's including a Shadow 2, J frames, K frames, L frames, N frames, Ruger SP01's.

When I do carry a revolver now it's a 3" 686+ (Sometimes a 4" and I'm thinking about going to a 3" or 4" N frame) AIWB in a Garret Industries Silent Thunder AIWB holster. It's a kydex holster lined with soft leather and it's been one of my favorite holsters of all time. I used to modify holsters all the time to get something that would work better but with AIWB getting as popular as it is it's much easier to find holsters than it used to be for a revolver, although there is still room for a better selection.

Maybe it's because I've done it for so long or maybe because of all the little tricks I learned along the way, but I think carrying a revolver AIWB is pretty easy duty, and of all the guns that could be carried that way a revolver is probably the safest.

AIWB is probably easier for taller thinner guys but I'm 6' 235 lbs and don't have a problem with it. I truly believe it's as much mental as It is physical.

One of many great revolver features is the ability to do a "thumb check" when holstering. This obviously doesn't apply to Centennials. The older I get, the more I like the "thumb check".

I agree, it works with bobbed hammer revolvers and DA/SA semis carried in DA mode also. One of the many reasons I like the CZ's better than striker fired pistols.

Tom Jones of Tau Development Group invented "The Gadget" Striker Control Device for Glocks. Been using for a few years. Not a single failure has been reported after millions of user rounds.
