Specifically my Sig P250c .40 S&W. $160.00 less than a brand new one. On his way here, the buyer stops and purchased two magazines as my P250c only shipped with one. Besides being late, he is now about $41.00 short of my price. I inform him of that, and his reply was “Do want to sell it or bicker over a few bucks?”

Neither one, I got back in my RAV4 with my Sig and drove off with his cash on my hood blowing across the driveway at McDonalds.

I hope he enjoys his new magazines.

Some people just don't understand that a deal is a deal. I've bought and sold guns from private parties over the years.

In only one case did a buyer try to renegotiate the price at the point of sale. I was nice about it, but told him that the price we'd previously agreed upon was the price. We proceeded with the sale and parted company.

On a couple of occasions I have looked at guns, but without having committed to buy. Under those circumstances I have negotiated price, but would never do that if a price had been agreed upon before hand.

BTW, nice touch driving away whilst the cash was on the hood! :)

When I got the Sig SP2022 .40 S&W a few days ago the seller told me I was the only person who inquired about the gun who did not low ball him, I gave his asking price. That pistol was $135.00 less than a new one and included a new magazine, for a total of three. I know a decent price when I see one.

Good on ya! I seems like lowballing and shorting people expecting them to cave in is a thing these days. SMH

I used to hear this a lot from people before our SB 941 required private gun sales to be transferred by a FFL. I don't think buyers feel as compelled to try this last minute undercutting while a transfer is about to take place. Regardless as previously mentioned a deal is a deal when agreed upon. Heck one time I had a guy show up with a gun I was buying and he apologized for not being able to find the scope rings for it so he told me to "just keep the one oz silver token coin" that was going to be part of the deal.

A few years back, I listed a 1911 for sale in a local forum, and I got a response from a guy saying he'd buy it, but I'd have to come to where he lived (about an hour away) because he'd been in an accident and couldn't drive very far. I agreed and we met at a Walmart parking lot. When I got there, he told me he was $100 short because his meds were more expensive than he expected...I was mad, but figured after driving all that way, I would take it. He did have a leg brace on, and one arm was in a sling, so I kinda felt sorry for him. We did the deal and I left.

A couple of days later, I saw that 1911 for sale on another forum (I recognized it because of the grips I'd put on it) for $100 MORE than I had listed it for initially! I reported him to the forum, and they booted him...but it still burns me to this day. I can't abide a liar and a scammer.

I despise people like that. But it does my heart good to know that he missed out on a very fine pistol. I know a couple of guys in the bunch I run with that have that same pistol. It's well balanced with a good trigger. A lot of fun to shoot.

I made a deal by text for a gun on Florida Gun Trader once. Agreed to his price and set up a meeting place. I thought the price was a little high, but not too bad, so I didn’t bicker over it, plus I really wanted it (Sig P220 10mm). I was leaving the ATM after getting the cash and he texts me that someone had “outbid” me. I took it as an omen that I WAS paying too much and figured I’d let some other sucker pay WAY too much. I just headed into the lobby of the bank and redeposited my money.

Sometimes things just don't go as planned!
Recently I 'met' a guy on another forum that was selling a M1 Garand. He had listed it for an astronomical price and came under a lot of criticism from other members for that, so he withdrew the listing.
As it was he was within fifty miles of me, so I offered to meet him to evaluate exactly what it was, and to make an offer if I liked it.
Making the story short, when I explained what he had and made a cash offer he said "Are you sure? That seems about $200.00 too much."
We then struck the deal.
Talk about unexpected outcomes!

Similar thing happened to me, but at least I hadn't got to the ATM. Guy was selling an Indian Enfield 2A1 for $125 on Backpage. The ad came out late at night (24 hour city) and we made the deal by email and phone to meet next morning.

The AM comes and the guy calls me to say that other folk had told him he was selling a $350-400 gun way too cheap. I wished him well and said goodbye. The thing is those Indian rifles are a lottery. The furniture can look great on the outside, but then you find the key part of the wood for bedding has been destroyed. You may guess how I know.

I have purchase almost all my guns in FTF transactions and sold a number of them in the same fashion.

My biggest complaint is being left standing at the alter after a meeting had been set up.

As the buyer I found all sellers do not fully describe the condition, lies by omission.
Gun in original box....show up without the box and promise to ship it.
Red loctite on all the screws.
Aftermarket parts.
Cracked grips
Drop mark dent on crown.
Very dirty,like never been cleaned

As a seller I was always prepared to expect the unexpected and human nature to be displayed.

I bought a Dan Wesson from a guy with a PM "I'll take it. Where & when?"

We had the deal done in a couple of hours & there was some butthurt from a couple of guys that were haggling by PM. Oh well... :D

I feel everyone's pain. I sell stuff on Craigslist and had a guy offer to buy a $300 item I had listed for sale. He lived clear on the other side of town so I drove 30 miles to meet him. He shows up being friendly and everything seems to be progressing like a normal transaction. When it comes time to seal the deal he informs me he only brought $200 with him.

I haven't done many deals with people I don't know at all until I found this place. It's funny I don't have any horror stories about gun purchases made here on the Forum! The people and atmosphere here have given me enough confidence to look at the classified section here FAR too often.

Thanks

About a month ago I responded to an ad for a Sig SP2009 9mm with “I will take it, pending inspection.” The seller’s photos were poor. He neglected to photograph the sight installation, hastily done with a cold chisel and three pound sledge hammer. I declined that gun and received negative feedback from him. I sent a moderator pics of that and he removed the unkind remarks.

I really haven't had too many bad experiences. Just this weekend I had a guy tell me he wanted to buy a S&W Shield 9m/m I had listed on Armslist and we discussed several things and he said he would give me a call the next day and we would meet for the purchase. An hour after I talked to him another man text me and said he wanted to buy the same gun and I said O.K. and we had several texts back and forth, and he would call me when he got off work and we would meet at a certain place for the purchase. I was a little worried what I would tell the person who didn't get the gun but not too worried, because....you guessed it, I never heard from either of the buyers.
