Took it out to the range the other day, set her up and tested it with some 22lr out of my MII pistol. Worked fine average of 1200 something fps.

I then tried some 45acp. 230gr lrn loaded with 4.5gr HP38 OAL 1.200

The average of 10 shots was 1230fps! I tried again and the same results.
Another guy came over with his reloads and got about the same from his Glock. We even tried his AR and got 2800 fps so I am pretty sure the machine is reading correctly.

Why in the world would my 45's be so fast??? The powder is measured and calibrated on a Dillon beam balance so I know it's correct.

The brass showed no signs of pressure problems or primer problem.

Something ain't Kosher!

OCD,
How far away is the chronograph from the end of your muzzle? It should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 15' or so. It doesn't make sense that the 223 didn't give you some erroneous readings if muzzle blast was causing you some problems but.......stranger things have happened.

Try moving it out a little further, use your sun screens, and clear all data beforehand.

Try that and see what happens, let us know!

That seems pretty high to me coming from a pistol. I believe that's more like rifle velocity.

Oops!. I did have it about 10ft away but then I moved it closer as I was getting error messages. I had the sky screens to high. I then forgot to move it back out so it was pretty darn close. The muzzle blast from the AR about knocked it over. By that time I was so hot and sweaty, those LSWC were jamming and I had enough. I just said forget it and went home.
I hate Florida in the summer! I just change the air filters in the car(engine and AC) 10 min job and you would think I was out there all day.

We will take you in Tenn. I need a good parnter to teach me to shoot.
These jug heads here don't know how to shoot. Don

We are thinking of moving up around there some day, Tn, Ga somewhere with hills and trees. I went white water rafting on the Ocoee. Very weird how they (TVA) can just "turn off" a river and then turn it on again.

Simplest thing is : BETWEEN STRINGS - power off for 5 seconds, power back on. Memory dumps completely. You prob were adding the 45 to the 22 string already in memory.

Don't feel bad, quite a number of us Alpha Master Chrony owners found out the same thing, pretty much the same way too.

Edited post script: About ten feet from muzzle to first screen is an acceptable distance. Big enough window to shoot through, but close enough to get near-muzzle velocity. Also, far enough out that muzzle-flash will not be an issue for the sensors. Also close enough for the cord to lie on the ground and not be an invitation to trip over it.

No, I turned it off and on and cleared the memory. I only fired 10 shots and then checked the average, then turned it off. I did have it way to close which is probably what skewed the results. It was one of those, "I am having a bad day" and it was hot and humid and miffed that my 185gr lswc's were jamming. Next trip out to the range, I'll take some 9mm and try again. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Keep after it. We all are anxious to know what and why.

Edited PS: Your "bad day at the range" makes me feel grateful for yesterday, my "good day at the range". Here in PA (Pure Apalachia), I took five pistols, an AR, and a 22LR and went out to the range with MY Alpha Master Chrony. Up along the side of the mountain, under the shade of tall oak trees and on the sheltered benches at the black-powder range of my club, I shot from 3:00 to 7:15 PM, had the entire range all to myself, and the cool breezes drifting down off the dense forests of the mountain kept me cool and comfortable as long as I was not out in the sun hiking up to the 100-yard backstop to post another target.

We all know why old folks go to Florida in the winter. Come on up and finds out why they fly back north for the summers.
