So what do you consider "long range" ?

Shooting pigeons at 220 required lots of patience and a spotting scope! :)

9 power isn't cutting it for that distance either.. But I was able to do it a few times, the problem is, to hit it once your shooting five rounds just to see where your hitting.

With the .308 it didn't even break a sweat, you can't miss at 220 with a .308. I also shot the .223 VTR and just wasn't as impressed with it as I was with it's bigger brother.

I was actually most impressed with my 92FS at 35 yards! 105' with non adjustable iron three dot sights and keeping groupings
all within center mass (and a couple 10 ring shots).

I consider 75 yds as effective max and 100 as long range. Spoken by an 'old geezer' with primitive ways.

I shot a crow at 800 yards. The shot hurt his wing, and he was walking around complaining when I got to him.

Not a brag. There were a hundred or so of them, and I just lobbed a round in amongst them. One of them had the bad luck to be standing where the bullet landed.

We had a saying back in the day. Under 500 its infantry over 800 its Arty.:D
But that being said I regularly shoot my 308 at 800 yards.(range). But my 15-22 is what I like to call my 100 yarder. Its fun to shoot and thats why I got it. Not to shoot gnats at unseen distances. Now golf balls thats differant.

OK you want long range, there is going to be a BPCR match near here next month. 800, 900, and 1000 yards, followed by targets at a Mile.

Black Powder, lead bullets. I'm been working on my 45-70 loads. Do you have any ideal of the mid range trajectory is of a 405 grn bullet going about 1300 FPS. Want to talk about mortors?

I used to shoot long range BP with a Shiloh 50-120. Now I'm a lot less recoil tolerant so traded it off for a 45-90. You get "smarter" as you get older I guess:rolleyes:

God I hope so.. cause if it gets any worse I won't be able to tie my own shoes lol
