So what's the verdict on the S&W 460 XVR after those barrel problems were reported?

I've heard of several owners sending their gun back with torn up barrels after firing minimal amounts of rounds through them (some less than 200). Did S&W fix this? Is it safe to buy them now?

I know there are going to be some owners that say "mine's fine", but I'm looking for responses from people who have been following the issues people are having with them, and reports of fixes, etc. I know some aren't having issues, but I'm more concerned with how frequently this stuff is occuring.

Any help would be appreciated. :)

S&W did a recall on the 460 and the S/N list was on their web site. I believe the barrels in question were made in Germany for S&W.
I'm not sure based on this what your question is - other than the recall the barrels have been fine as far as I know.
I don't think a barrel issue has come up on this forum - that is, other than the recall.

I was basically asking:

1) Are the barrels of 460s CURRENTLY in production still a problem? (And yes, I'm inferring that S&W might avoid the issue and keep producing them as-is due to the percentage of failures being low or something like that)

2) Is there a definitive way to know what serial numbers are affected (so that I could check used guns against that list), and do you have a direct link to the list? :)

...but I think you answered most of this.

Here's the link to the recall S/N's[ALL were from the Perf Center & NOT regular production]!
Performance Center Model 460 Safety Recall - Smith & Wesson

As for your 2nd comment - I seriously doubt that ANY reputable firearms mnfg. would knowingly put out product that 'might' have safety issues!!
The courts and the lawyers would have them for lunch not to mention a 'few' dollars. Are mistakes made - ABSOLUTELY - but not knowingly where liability can be established.
