That the 30 million stolen in Los Angeles was a lot? Well, I just read where the Congress is going to be asked to pay the bill for the cleanup and reconstruction of the collapsed Baltimore Key bridge.

When they get through tapping into that pork barrel, 30 million will be a drop in the bucket.

The fact that the US Gov is going to foot the rebuild costs doesn't mean that they won't go after any and all responsible parties. I predict that the rebuild costs will be smaller than the various costs to shipping, manufacturing, and any and all damages that clever attorneys can think of.
This will the lawyers relief bill of 2024!

^ This. Is the US economy and the residents of Maryland supposed to wait for the legal wrangling to finish? Sounds like the feds should step in and their lawyers can then go and recover the costs.

If it actually works like that. Rest assured the Feds will screw it up 6 ways to Sunday. The do not have a good track record doing things!

It's been attributed to the late Sen. Everett Dirksen that "A billion here, a billion there, the next thing you're talking REAL money."

I assumed the ships insurance carrier would be on the hook. This I'm guessing will bankrupt them. Which makes me wonder, what the premiums would be on a ship like that. Especially if it goes into areas inhabited by pirates.

The ships owners are trying to claim they are only liable for 45 mil. That won't fly. The reason the feds are trying to fund it is because nobody can afford to leave it like it is while the lawsuits fly. That would be idiotic. You'll get your tax dollars back in the treasury.
