I called Social Security today and heard their recording about the raise for 2021 (1.5 % of whatever you're now getting) and the increase in Medicare.

Had other questions and they had an estimated 40 minute wait. I opted to be called back.

I got a call, twice, from Allen, TX, from a number I think has been a source of scam calls. I Googled that number and it seems there are complaints about the number, but they also listed it as a SS no. But with scam complaints again.

If SS really calls back, wouldn't they use their listed national no. that I originally called? Otherwise, how do people know who's calling?

At least you got a call back. Two days ago I did the same thing, called SSA and left a number and I'm, still waiting for a return call. I tried to logon to their site to change my address as we have moved. I couldn't get in so they said they would send me temporary password to my address. Typical "Catch22". They send the password to my old address so how can I get into the site to change my address?

They send the password reset via email - not regular mail.

SSA is headquartered in Woodlawn, Maryland, just to the west of Baltimore, at what is known as Central Office. The agency includes 10 regional offices, 8 processing centers, approximately 1300 field offices, and 37 Teleservice Centers. I could not find the locations of the 37 teleservice centers, but assume that each would have a different set of phone numbers.

I read on the SS website a few weeks ago it was only going to be a 1.3% increase? If they changed it I'm very happy then.

Social Security will never contact you via telephone is my understanding. You can contact them at phone numbers they provide, but not the other way around. They always communicate via snail mail. Email I'm not so sure about but probably not.

They've RETURNED my calls after offering that option in lieu of a long hold.

It doesn't really matter how much the COLA raise will be, the medicare always seems to increase exactly the same amount. Haven't had an actual increase in about 3 years. And I don't know what cost of living index they are using to claim only a 1.5% increase. The cost of groceries alone has gone up 20-30%.

As far as the phone call, probably a scam. these scammers can spoof any number they want these days.
