This is a S&W .38 New Departure, AKA Safety Hammerless, AKA Lemon Squeezer 5th model with factory letter. This has a 2" barrel and factory pearl grips. Revolvers in this configuration are also known as "Bicycle Guns" and are very rare. It is in superb condition with ~95+% original nickel finish, case color hammer, trigger and blued catch and trigger guard. It shows only slight wear at the muzzle and on the right side of the catch, see pictures. All numbers match. The factory pearl grips have no number showing, but the original number was written in pencil and might have worn off. There is an "H" carver into the inside of both grips. The bore is excellent with strong rifle, and no pitting. The cylinder lock up is excellent with only very slight play. The factory letter shows that the gun was shipped with the 2" barrel and the factory pearl grips to Boston, MA in March of 1913. It also shows that this was one of a matched consecutively number pair, so it has an identical twin out there somewhere. Will ship to either a Dealer or C&R FFL with buyer paying actual overnight shipping. $1200 OBO.
