Made for Colts, not Smiths.

Just received my second Threepersons style holster from Red Nichols and just thought I would show them off here. I learned of Mr. Nichols reading his posts here on this forum but never thought I would be able to own any of his work. (Not counting the holsters I own that I now know he designed).

I carry a handgun every day around my small ranch, spending time in the saddle, the pick-up, the tractor, etc. I am always changing guns but have recently settled on these two for most use. The 5 1/2" is a 2nd gen 44 Special and the 4 3/4" is a 45 Colt 3rd gen.

I decided that the perfect holster to carry these guns daily would be a Threepersons style on a heavy pants belt. In searching the many great holster makers I found one on Ebay from Mr. Nichols. This one was for the short barrel. I liked it so much I placed an order for a second holster for the 44. They are not identical but both are perfect for my needs. Unbeatable quality!

Red gave me the number one proto-type of the original Tom Threepersons,
then he gave me the Brill-Persons for the 1911. Then he figured I needed
a belt so he made the sidewinder for me, shown in the two photos. He is
a perfectionist, and it shows in his work.

Thanks for all of the kind comments. I am privileged to own these two.

The prototype original Threepersons is fantastic. I really like that one a lot. The quality of the work as well as the detailed history in Red's work makes him one of a kind.

I went to Red Nichols holster site...the holsters may be out of my price range but the book " Holstory " ..hard cover and autographed ...looks like a wonderful Christmas present for this old book collector and holster buff .
Putting in my request to "Santa" right now...she loves it when I drop a great Christmas present hint !

Thanks Dan. If you want to read an interesting thread about
the very early development of your holsters. go up to the
Search function & type in THREEPERSON'S VERY OWN HOLSTER.
I started the thread when Red gave me the proto-type. Then
Red jumped in and provided a lot of detail in his development.

One more thing to add on my latest holster from Red. I noticed when I received it that there was a "cylinder recess" cut into the inside of the holster at the belt loop. My previous rig did not have this recess, and it appears that it is something new Red has added. Here is a pic of the recess.

This new design helps to support the weight of the gun and aids in retention. The draw is very smooth from this rig. It also makes the gun ride closer to the body. I have tried to capture this in a couple pics of my guns in both Red Nichols holsters.

The older holster with no recess.

And the newer with the recess.

The pictures don't really do it justice but it is quite noticeable in carrying the gun.
