Some of my favorites: Models 25-5 in .45 Colt

Here is a couple of shots of one of my favorite guns too, the 25-5. Very pleasant to shoot and quite a bit more accurate than I. Thanks for starting the thread. Bob

I just purchased at 25-5 with 6 inch barrel with factory box and cleaning tools. It is not pinned and in 98-99% condition. Got it for a good ca price of 600. Have not shot ot yet. Hope to while camping in a couple of weeks. Got to make some loads for ot though since all my 45 col ammo is for my 3 screw ruger. Cannot wait.

Great pics to all. Great guns.

My first .45 Colt [or .45 Long Colt] was a Ruger three screw bought in 1973 for $99.00. I loaded it with the Speer 200 grain lead semiwadcutter and 10 grains or Unique. I got 2 inch groups if I held right. I also loaded the Hornady 250 jacketed hollow-point to about 1100 fps, but only a short while, then I went back to the 200 grain load. Also loaded the Speer 250 grain lead semiwadcutter.

It's the only gun I wish I never sold.

Since then I have had [still do] a slew of Ubertis in the caliber. Several Colt SAA's, and Ruger Vaqueros.

The only D/A .45 Colt I have is the below New Service. I have long considered the M25 or even the Mountain Gun.

Paladin85020, I concur with your assesment as to the recoil of the .45 Colt. I too have found it a "push" over a "slam", although I'm sure if "horsed up" it'll slam!!

Incidentally, a standard .45 Colt load, or a .44 loaded as such, will make a tin can hop high when a round is popped off just under the can. A .357, regardless of bullet and velocity, will not "hop" the cans as high.

Have had many Colt SAA's, some Ruger Blackhawks & Vaqueros in .45 Colt and one 6" 25-5(not pinned). But the one gun I treasure the most is my only 25-5 4". It will go in the ground with me.

Between Ruger with their Blackhawks and the popularity of CAS, I was very happy that the .45 Colt cartridge did not end up slipping into obscurity.

Whether or not that would have come to pass is debatable, but in the mid to late 70's it was kind of feeling like that to me given how difficult it was getting to find any factory loaded ammo.

I think it's one of the most versitile cartridges around as if you reload, it can loaded up and down the scale to suit your needs... as pointed out many times by Skeeter Skelton in his writings.

I have have a 6" M25-5 and would love to happen onto a 4"... but in Kalifornia, finding a nice blued 25-5 is an accomplishment unto itself.

I also have 2 Ruger Vaqueros, a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk and a Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt, all left overs from my days shooting CAS.

I have been getting into .44Spc and in doing the research on the round I have seen many folks suggesting the .45 Colt as a round that is truly a pleasure to shoot. I have never had a .45 Colt gum but found a 99% M25-5 in 8 3/8th inch today with the presentation box. I cannot wait to shoot it.

I only have one example in 45 Colt, that is a 25-5 that I picked up a few years ago. It has been worked over by Austin Behlert. I am not sure what he did internally but it is one of the most pleasurable big bores to shoot I have ever found.

The one thing I am not at all fond of is the round butt he put on it. It is an oddball size so finding a set of round to square has been challanging. I think I will just get an unfinished set, fit them and finish them my self. It seems that that may be the only solution.

I love shooting this gun, it is much more pleasurable than shooting my 41 mags. So much in fact, when I go off into the woods, this is the gun I carry.

This is a Shooter's Lament for me this morning. I bought my 4" 25-5 years ago new for $240 from a shop that got "stuck" with them - remember the early '80s when nobody wanted new .45 Colt DA revolvers? My absolute favorite handgun and I sold it when we bought our first house because my 28 was cheaper to shoot. Broke even on the gun sale and made money on the house but man do I miss that gun!

Not a problem Kenny. I owed you one. I was sitting there talking to Chris about the pre 27 that you got and the one I had on layaway and then I started looking at that M25-5. I left and drove to Crewe to get my kids and all the way down 460 I kept saying go back and exchange that 25 for the pre 27 I had on layaway and that is exactly what I did. I was in there last weekend listening to these two other guys talk about it and how much they loved .45 Colt. So now I will see what the hubub is about.

LOL...glad you got it...i need to talk to chris about the pre 27 i purchased...i understand he has the scoop on it as he bought it from the owner...i just haven't caught up to him as of yet

You folks really have some very nice guns. I have a Colt SAA in .45 Colt, but have never had the Model 25 on my radar. These pictures and stories have placed it there.
