Some of my Hornady XTP bullet test results...

.44 Mag with M69 4.2 inch barrel...45 ACP with Springfield XDE 3.3 and 45 Colt with Ruger Alaskan 2.5 barrel.
Note: water jugs in 45 ACP test were smaller 1/2 gallon size and other two tests were 1 gal.

I really like the .45 ACP bullet performance thru my XDE...my daily carry load with that and I run those thru my HiPoint .45 Carbine.
The 200 gr. XTP is a nice comfortable shooter in my S&W M-69 revolver.
The 250 XTP out the short barreled Alaskan is not bad at 1100 FPS with good jug penetration at 5 one gallon jugs!

I have 4.2" M69. It's amazing how accurate that little gun is. It's favorite bullet is 240 gr XTP. I love exploding water filled gallon milk jugs with it at 100 yards.

Yep it is a nice field carry revolver I carry sometimes.

Tyr those 180 XTP bullets as they really pack a punch at 1500 FPS out of a revolver and 2000 FPS thru my Henry 44 Carbine!

I moved away from the light super fast bullets after getting some wicked flame cutting on a 629 years ago. At the moment, I have several thousand 240 gr XTP's on hand to last me hopefully through the current component shortage.

The XTP bullet is a good bullet that gives nice accuracy and good penetration, at a bargain price, if you can find them.

One surprise was the accuracy of the 140 gr in my J frame snub nose, that put the factory Speer 135 JHP to shame.

Don't forget about using them in your rifles, also...........

I love the XTP's a quality bullet. Have loaded a bunch of them in 357. Seems a little waste of a good bullet for paper punching, so I am hanging on to the the ones I have for now. I have 500 .45 cal that I am thinking about trading for some more .357 or 44 mag at the next gun show since I am a bit low on those caliber.

I love the xtps as well. The most Underrated bullets imo.
They might not look like a bunch of flowers at the end a of a gel test, but nobody is here to report that they didnt penetrate when they needed.
In my experience also easy to replicate loads for practice with plated bullets from xtreme.

Here's a couple of 240 gr .44 XTP's fired into a rain soaked berm of earth and horse manure (barn pile).
The load was 24gr. W296 (44 Magnum).
I agree about the XTP's value.
The 300gr. XTP is perfect in the 445 Supermag.
The other brand I like is Sierra .. mostly their silhouette bullets which are very accurate and hold together out of a 444.

edit: made another stab at photographing these.
I find it awful hard to focus this close.
Definitely shows the difference in rifling between those guns.

Is that the right unfired bullet in that picture?

According to the last Hornady manual I have (#8 2010) the 230 (45160 HP-XTP) has no cannelure while the 240 (45220 Mag XTP) does have one.
Their current online catalog, when I can get it to work, indicates the same.

Hornady has been known to rarely change the design of a bullet with out telling anyone why.
Example: The .44 265gr FP (4300)
Started life with one cannelure, then went to 2 cannelures (same part number).
I understand they have again gone back to one but I have not bought any recently.

No that was a 250 gr. XTP. I'm out of the 230's when I took that picture.
