A bill was drafted in the opening session of Colorado's legislature concerning the banning of assault weapons. The topic is not new to any of us but what is in the proposed bill should cause concern or maybe even laughter.

Most of the info on semi auto rifles and shotguns is the same except for a few parts. The rifle cannot have a shroud that encompasses the barrel preventing the user's non-trigger hand from being burned by the barrel. This shroud is an integral part on AR's. There are also bans on certain semi auto pistols.

Firearms would be grandfathered in that were bought before the ban. However, the owner must have proof of ownership, before the ban,on their person if stopped by LEO for any reason. LEO could confiscate the firearm and the owner would have 3 days to prove ownership or be fined.

This would never hold up in the courts but it gives one insight into how the mind of a liberal continues to work.

This Bill was drafted by a solidly Blue legislature. I can't find a copy of the draft but it's out there if someone can find it.

I can't find the official draft, but RMGO has excerpts at this link.

"Mass Shooting Prevention Act of 2023"

The Great Gun Grab of 2023 | Rocky Mountain Gun Owners

That's where I saw it. RMGO has had issues in the past from what others have said here so I'm hesitant to rely soley on what they say or at least how they say it.

Would sure like to see the complete Bill as written. Has to be out there somewhere in PDF form.

“Coincidence” (insert sarcasm emoji) but the bill presently in New Mexico’s legislature and one that was introduced in the Michigan House at the end of 2022 which died without action at the end of last year are citing the handguard issue, seems like word for word.

A little too convenient IMO. In the past I’ve never been a conspiracy theory believer but this just makes me wonder.

Basically they are trying to tailor the ban to specific guns - AR-15's in particular.
It it all about the optics. AR-15s look scary to them so they want to ban them.
Pretty simple when you think about it.

Seems like there should be a product safety issue with these proposed bills. Someone should ask ‘you want to ban safety features that protect users from burns?’ Meanwhile we have warnings on peanuts…

If I recall correctly Illinois assault weapon ban list the actual guns that want to ban. They list the mag fed SKS. The Ruger mini 30 is not on list???? Are they not basically the same thing. Another example of the idiocy of law makers.

Barrel shrouds are very deadly. When combined with bayonet mounts and pistol grips it's a surprise the firearms don't just walk off and start shooting people on their own.

Well, I can state with full confidence that during the AWB of '94 there was not one single drive by bayonetting or drive by rifle grenade incident.

So obviously the law worked...

All they have to do is ban the clips. Because when they are used up the gun is useless. I forget who said that. But someone said that.

Still shooting off their mouths with empty magazines between their ears.

Look uo the Firearms Coalition of Colorado. They will have the real scoop on the law. Steve Schriener is the director and also a NRA board member. Remember Steve when voting. He is one of the GOOD guys.
