Sons of Guns...where is this show going?

I would agree that the first couple of episodes were different and interesting, i did like the one where they rebuilt the flame thrower for the WWII vet, that was kinda touching, especially the look on the guys face when he was firing it. <snip> Another question, pertaining to the flame thrower episode, I thought flame throwers were considered destructive devices, how can they REWAT a display flame thrower and stay out of jail?
Maybe I'm missing something, if so feel free to clue me in.
RD

That was the only episode that I have watched all the way through. I loved watching the end where that old Marine lit up everything with his resorted flamethrower. I don't think that tank style flamethrowers are regulated. I had a friend of the family (deceased now) that used to fight forest fires in California and he said back in the 60s and 70s they had a couple that they would use to start controlled burns. More recently (last year or two) Small Arms Review has done a couple articles on restoring old dewated American and Japanese WWII flamethrowers.

A lot of people around here are somewhat fascinated by the show because they are local people on TV (same as with Swamp People), but I generally can't watch SoG because of all the typical 'reality show' manufactured drama. I have been to the shop and met a couple of the people on the show (they did work on guns for a couple friends of mine), but the only one that I have ever talked with much is Vince. He has always struck me as very knowledgeable and a stand up guy.

Honest to God-I refuse to watch it as it is a really insulting portrayal of gun owners. I'm beginning to wonder if this was done purposly to present a bad impression to the public about gun owners. These guys portray stereotypes that are very degrading and damaging to the gun owning public. Why not show Briley or Turnbull or some other restoration program? It like OC choppers-I'd much rather watch a modern marvels presentation of Harleys. It's bad TV and I for one will no twatch it.

Lots of pathetic, disgusting TV about LA lately.
One would get the impression that the residents of your Gret Stet aren't the brightest bulbs on the tree if these shows were one's only view of Louisianans.

The show isn't going into my DVR or eyeballs for sure, the few episodes I've seen the guys aren't really that knowledgable about firearms, they may be good machinists, but their history knowledge is lacking somewhat, doesn't impress me, and sorry, neither does she...

Take care...

Thank you Fellas, I never said anything because I didnt want to seem harsh, but GEESE, First Top Gun, then this one , I thought whats next , then Hillbilly Hand fishin , came out.
Its all about money, when the writers strike was going on, hollywood execs put on reality shows, no scripts,or not much, people still watched, so it caught on. They get these "ACTORS" for little or no money, compared to real actors, and the big savings is writers, they made the real money. So we are stuck with this stuff. I dont know who watches it. Bob

Well for the most part that's true but let's not get sidetracted-we're talking about TV shows :D

Us Machinists might disagree about them being GOOD MACHINISTS. They look more like what we might call a JACK-LEG MECHANIC. They should have the daughter play a larger part and less of the dumb projects. Maybe she'll get a spin-off show, stranger things have happened.

Since the show jumped the shark the first season, I figure a radial aircraft engine powered, 36 M2 .50bmg's would be the ultimate "gun." Then they can lock up, go home and watch "Billy the Exterminator" who lives up the block. Joe

9th grade auto shop full of social rejects that get to work on the teachers pet gun projects in class.

"Weld up this Mg42 parts kit, make it work and while you're at it mount these two Saiga's on top of it.
Put a bumper hitch & kick stand on it too,,,,,we're towin' it to the range where that alligator sits by the road tomorrow morn' to meet the customer.
Darlin',,do the paper work for the gentl'man."

What's not to like.......

I've watched a couple of episodes but couldn't get into it. The owner is such a jerk and I could not work for him. I saw the episode about the flame thrower and I think one where they got an old machine gun working again. Those were ok and seeing those old warhorses in action again was pretty entertaining.

Think of it like this. Your a on the fence gun owner. Or like in my case have boys 10 to 11 who your trying to teach responsible gun ownership, handling and history.

You turn to this show.

Draw your own opinion.

My 10 yr old told me the other day. Dad this show is not what we are about!!

I salute him. As we took a 1917 Enfield and proceeded to shoot 40 rounds of reloaded ammo out of it off our deck range.

I'll post pics later. One of the quotes that disturb me the most on that show, "unleash hell"... When Will says that something makes my skin crawl.

I hope they take it off the air.

Like the dozens of other "reality shows" permeating the airwaves, this is more contrived TV drama garbage. But the problem as I see it, is that such lowest common denominator representation of gun owners/smiths, etc. portrays us in a very poor light to the masses. A person not familiar with firearms (or even an anti-gunner) need only turn this rubbish on for 5 minutes to witness the basest stereotype of gun wielding loons locked and loaded on full auto. It may be entertainment, but it's coming at our collective expense.

I dont know but I want their damn poster removed from my gun range.

I've caught the producers of the show playing gun switcheroo twice now, both times with the daughter. The fist time she is supposedly shooting the .50 Desert Eagle, however if you watch the video in slow motion, she is holding a Beretta M-9 (or 92) after the shot goes off!. Plus the hole they show in the target is way small for .50. The second time, she is 'testing' 12 gage AK conversions, but the gun she actually fires live is a 410 AK.

All the Hollywood fake pyrotechnics get on my nerves too.

Definitely not a 50 cal.....so obvious it was a beretta....

The daughter seems to be picking up some poundage. Success and more Southern Deep-fried I guess. I wonder if she's a Big Gator eater or just a Gumbo woman.:D:D:D

The show is not on the air for people that are true gun enthusiasts. It's on the air for the ignorant that are entertained by loud noizes, explosions and people that like to see others in others faces on the edge of the drama brink. Cancel the show.

$300,000.00 in cnc equipment and they don't have anyone to run it. And the shotgun Gatling gun was a joke at best.

They make me angry. They're allowing themselves to be portrayed as typical redneck ignorant gun-nuts while making a ton of money. They're sell-outs.

I had no idea how much money those people on the "reality shows" make until Jon and Kate Goslin got divorced and the numbers got published. It was amazing. Now I look at all those shows with a very cynical eye. None of the so called drama is legit and the "real life people" are just raking in the money while they act like idiots.

Barf.

Anybody who has to call the fire department after a shooting session shouldn't be allowed to possess so much as a cap pistol. It's only a matter of time before somebody gets hurt on that show. Oh, and the girl is so ugly, here in KS we'd call her a double-bagger. One paper bag to put over her head, and another to put over mine in case hers breaks.

kinda reminds me of the chopper show,,started out small,,then bought all kinds of cnc equipment, waterjet, ect,,then went bankrupt,,,just saw the gun boys got a new $300,000 cnc mill and cant run it! i wouldnt take my truck to them for an oil change let alone let em build me a gun.........

I doubt I ever will either but someone there prolly is competent enough or they wouldn't still be in business. But they prolly need to stay with what they were doing before becoming tv stars. I foresee the series being short and no movie deals or books any time soon.

I watched the recorded newest show last night. I've decided I don't have any use for the owner at ALL. He's an egomaniac. That garbage with Joe was just that..garbage.

He would be a lost ball in the high weeds w/o Joe, and he damn well knows it. Blaming him for his new 100k machine not working as fast as he wanted, was asinine.

Anybody else would have sent their "user" to the manufacturer for a week to find out how to run it. The guys a jerk. Penny wise and pound foolish.

He thinks this show is going to make him a gillionaire over night ( Gov contracts, etc., he's wrong ).

As far as that female goes...I can't place an honest opinion here, I'd get banned. I'll just go with the "two bagger".

I think Joe should get some backing and open up his own shop and tell him to shove it. I'd never take his **** for no amount of money.

I love the show! As a gun collector and as a fan of RJF I love what they do. We see an episode that lasts a short period of time but as we know the show is taped and takes about 6months to make. Will has said many times that e has tried to talk more about the paperwork and gets shut down. I also dig the storage wars and pawn stars too, because I can relate. I have found gold, silver, rolex watches, knives, guns, and gun items just to name a few things I have picked up in storages, garage sales and such. I am educated and I feel I can relate to some of the things I see on T.V. Sure not all things I see are perfect but hey its entertainment! All I can say is hats off!

Caj,
Read post 56, If the RED JACKET "SONS OF A GUNS" people are getting out of your neighborhood to film an episode in Albuquerque, NM, they must really be going to blow something up.

Ain't in my neighborhood-those bozo's are over east in Baton Rouge. As far as the girl....the bags alone wouldn't work, you'd need some duct tape

Ive come to the conclusion that its scripted TV, nothing is real. Every word said every emotion, acting.

So who really knows what the folks are like in real life?

The girl, seems she has a kid already, so its not like the land where no man has gone before.

I dont think shes so bad...
