Spare mag 100% of the time??

If I had no more confidence in my pistol/mag combo than some of you seem to have, I would never carry a semi-auto. I carry a Ruger Light Weight Commander. I have a half dozen magazines with 100-plus rounds through them, without a failure. I shoot only 230 grain Hardball, which, in my opinion, alleviates about 75% of magazine problems.

I keep extra loaded mags handy, in my vehicle, on the shelf at my place of work, but not necessarily on my person.

Understand, if I were a LEO, I would carry some kind of high-cap pistol with a couple of extra magazines. Since I'm not, I believe eight rounds of .45 hardball will get me out of most any situation I might find myself in. I know, I know, someone will say, "Well what if blah blah blah.?" Well, I guess if blah blah blah happens, I'm just out of luck.:D I could wear body armor, and a crash helmet when driving my pickup.

I do have extra ammo available in my vehicle when traveling, whether speed loaders or magazines. If I stay overnight, I'll take a mag or speed loader in the room.

Yes. Why not? More rounds are a good thing. Quickly resolving a malfunction is a good thing. The spare mag is the easiest thing that we all carry to conceal. It discreetly fits in any pocket, at a minimum. At a maximum, you get a little extra bulge on an already expanded waistline. Nobody knows when the *#!# is going to hit the fan, otherwise we'd avoid it.

I too have to walk around in Business attire but usually business casual. When I do carry a Semi Auto (a M39-2 clone) I usually use a cell phone case to house two extra magazines. I prefer the vertical case with a Velcro flap covering most of the time but in a suit/jacket a horizontal one at 11:00 is easiest to access.
My phone goes into a suit/jacket pocket.
I carry a M-10-5 2 inch these days with two reloads speed strip in a front pocket and a loader in the right rear pocket.

I hope this helps with your original question.

The Past 3 days.....I've been testing a new leather horizontal magazine holder with a 8round 3913/14 magazine. Put it on and pretty much left it on all day...

yesterday was a office day......evening around the house...... when it was time for bed......I discovered/remembered I was still wearing the mag holder and mag.....

I've been using a horizontal Safariland Model 123 for at least 15 years.... an extra magazine is easier to carry than my reading glasses.
