OK folks. I've managed to accumulate a few ARs. I've got 3 now from 3 different manufacturers plus a 15/22.

Now I'm getting concerned about spare parts.

If you had to prioritize a spare parts list, what would you keep back home at the bench? I'm not really talking about for your range bag. Let me explain.

I changed out to a Slide-Fire stock a couple of days ago on one of mine, and no matter how many times you read about being careful with the safety spring when replacing the grip, you really can't appreciate how powerful it is and how far that little $#$#@! can jump until you have seen it do it for yourself. :D It's a wonder I found it but I actually did after about an hour. Lucky me.

Anyway, without breaking the bank and buying a complete rifle to tear down for parts, what do you keep for spares around the shop/house?

Links would be GREATLY appreciated. I hope this ends up being a thread worthy of being stickied so lets try to keep it on topic as much as practical.

Thanks in advance!

Hmm... if you don't want those terrible awful 30 round Pmags, I'd be happy to give them a new home. :D

I just got a small parts kits from Brownell's made by DPMS that has a good amount of stuff in it. Firing pin, extractor, ejector, and 5 different springs. I want to say I paid $30 for it.

Sorry about the delay answering you back, Karma. I have tried to get the link up here and I'm messing something up. This is the Brownell's parts number 231-015-003. It should come up as DPMS A-15 field repair kit. As a side note, when I was trying to get the link, Brownell's had it listed as out of stock. Good luck with your parts hunt.

I just lucked out and got a A4 upper for $99.99 + shipping. So the parts are there, you just have to be fast with the credit card when you see something you want in stock.

cotter pins, firing pin, bolt. (still waiting for BCM bolts to come in stock, so that I can complete my own list....LOL)

I'm also waiting for BCM bolts to finally become available again. I picked up a DPMS "ultimate repair kit" from Midway in January and found a cam pin at a local gun show. A spare charging handle is probably a good idea as well.

DPMS ultimate repair kit

Ammo and mags are the first parts to get a good supply of. ;)

After that, a spare bolt or two, extractors and ejectors, and bolt pins.
I keep a couple of complete LPK's around for small parts as well.

It's actually hard to beat having a spare rifle or two, sort of the ultimate in a spare parts kit. :)

Thanks! Thats the new excuse I am going to use on my wife for having my ARs. Sorta the backup for the backup. Yeah- she will understand that. OK. I have convinced myself, now if I can convince her.:D Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it!

I keep an Oh Shoot kit from JoeBobs, (I think it is DPMS but it could be RR) this has all pins and springs plus a few other things in it. Then a bolt rebuild kit. It has everything but the bolt body. A Carbine buffer and spring. A complete FCG with pins. I then have a portable set of Gunsmith screwdrivers, allen wrenches, an AR wrench, pin punches and a hammer. Plus a few other small tools and lubes and cleaners, sight adjustment tools and such. All in one Small Range bag. You just never know and when I was first modifying my Sport there were learning experiences.

For the time being I have a DPMS spring kit, Olympic SS firing Pin , and a complete AR-Stoner bolt. I may go ahead and install bolt and firing pin and keep the S&W parts in reserve along with the spring kit.
