Wanting to expand my stock of spirits to include some fine rum. Anybody have any good suggestions? What do you like?
I picked up a bottle of the Bacardi Reserva Ocho. Haven't tasted it yet, waiting for more samples.

Google says it all.....
There is evidence to suggest that moderate alcohol consumption, including rum, may have a positive impact on cardiovascular health. It can raise HDL (high-density lipoprotein) or "good" cholesterol, potentially reduce the risk of heart disease, and improve blood vessel function.

I bought a bottle of Appleton's once. Surprisingly, it tasted like rum. Tried some Pilar rum. Now that was a tasty rum! Named after Hemmingway's fishing boat.

If you're mixing it, Bacardi is great. But there are many other brands. Talk with the liquor store folks. Avoid spiced rum, IMHO.

Black Seal is a good suggestion. I’ll add the following:

Richland’s. This is an “estate rum.” The cane is grown and processed outside of Savannah, Ga. Quite tasty.

Ron Zacapa. This is a top notch solera blended rum with some 23 year old in the mix. From Guatemala. Good stuff.

Kirk and Sweeney, they have many age expressions. I have not had a bad one.

St James Extra Old, rhum agricole. Martinique if I recall.

All of these are great with a simple ice cube.

My favorite is
Flor de Can’a 18yr “flower of the cane”
Nicaragua
It’s delicious, like it w Ice and a lime zest for the smell.

Melville said it best, from Moby Dick...

"Um, um, um. Stop that thunder! Plenty too much thunder up here. What's the use of thunder? Um, um, um. We don't want thunder; we want rum; give us a glass of rum. Um, um, um!"

And that Meyers is my wife's preferred rum when she makes up a batch of Bananas Foster. :)

I have been know to drink a Meyer’s dark rum and tonic on a warm summer afternoon. 😉

I haven't had rum in years, but Mount Gay Barbados Eclipse was my go to back in the day.

Bacardi... YUK.
Ditto. My wife only drinks Bacardi white with 7-up. Meh.... Bacardi is a great mixing rum.
If I will be drinking rum, my go to is Mount Gay and tonic. Mount Gay back in the day was great at sponsoring large sailing regattas. Their red hats were made famous since you only got two per boat. wearing one especially an old faded tattered one was somewhat of a status symbol. Since they started showing up on ebay-meh....not so much.
The best one was the one for the "Figawi" regatta. Figawi
