Years ago I was in Ft. Collins.
Sometimes Went up to Francis Warren AFB at Cheyenne.
Seems like about the time you got to the Gangplank about at the Stateline the wind would get you.

Several years ago I was traveling from Denver to Wyoming on business. Made a pit stop in a town that in my opinion has the coolest name for a town...Chugwater, after dodging tipped over semi's on the highway. Imagine my surprise when I opened the rental car door just to have it practically ripped off the hinges and destroyed. The guy with me just said nonchalantly, "Yup, its windy today". My one and only experience with Wyoming wind.

I guess it blew over some semis up by Shelby yesterday. I have been following a semi and seen the duals on one side of the trailer leave the road and have about a foot of air under them.

I once had a wreck driving a van. It was winter and the roads were icy. I went into a cut and when I came out the wind hit me so hard, it punched me all the way to the side of the road, right side wheels hit the snow pile on shoulder and over I went, down the embankment, rolled 2 times, then a pause and about when I went whew, it slowly rolled one more time. I remember thinking during the last one that this one is easy. LOL

It has slacked off here, I guess yesterday some of the gusts were around 100mph.

I got all the limbs off the main portions and that bucked up. Roll the bigger log over so I can finish cutting through the back side, Then, just got to haul and stack it and haul the slash to the burn pit. The smaller log stayed up in the air just right the height to saw up easy as it was stuck on the fence, branches and the trunk Can't believe how lucky I was. Still about 10" or so in diameter where it landed on the tongue of my boat trailer, Branches cushioned it there and where it racked down the edge of the metal carport the boat is under. Couple top rails and rail end for where it landed on the chain link fence and I think thats it.

Let me guess that is on 80 down around Laramie.I drove across there one right blustery winter night. Locked in the hubs and went slow

One winter I left Billings heading home and was up above Roundup about 20 miles. It about 11pm and was blowing snow sideways and sucked. I was driving my Ford Power-stroke and came up on a smaller out of state car going along at about 25 mph. I still wonder where he was going and kinda wish I had stopped him and sent him back to Roundup. There is no place to stop at night headed North till Malta and that was over a hundred miles, that or tun left another 30 miles up the road at Grass Range, then go another 30 miles to Lewistown. To the east of the Junction at Grass range there isn't really anything till Jordan 80 miles east. Maybe he just stayed in the bar at Grass Range or someone there took him home. That is some might lonely country late at night summer or winter.

Was hunting on Caspar Mountain with some friends one day. Wind got a little sporting. On our way back into town that evening we heard on the radio that down in town they had recorded 75 mph gusts. I'd guess it was a bit more up on top where we were.

I remember it was 1966 because I had a new Mercury Comet. The wind was blowing hard and I was on a 2 lane overpass and the wind blew my car into the other lane. I got it back in my lane without wrecking. I have thought about that several times that if a car had been coming it would have been a head on collision and people would have wondered why I was stupid enough to drive in the opposite lane. I bet that stretch between Casper and Shoshoni at night with blowing snow is a fun drive

Way back when, I drove the only station wagon highway patrol car, and it didn't have overhead lights. I was a training Sgt. and had finished a training session and was just going home in Cheyenne.

The speed limit was 55 back then, and it was late at night. I dropped in behind an 18 wheeler at Shoshoni and followed him toward Casper. We seemed to be the only two on the road.

He was running about 75. All of our cars were equipped with CB's and he and I got to visiting just to kill the boredom.

When we got near Casper and where I was going to turn off,

I said to him over the radio, "Ya know what they say about getting behind an 18 wheeler, and you can make some pretty good time" and I hit my red spotlight.

You could hear the dejection in his voice as he came back with "Aw c**p , Smoky!"

I turned off the light, turned off at the exit, and replied, "You have a good night, ya hear!"
