Special Features on a Model 49?

I recently acquired a Model 49 in the original box. On the side of the box is the label, and under "Special Features" it says D-850 and 371. I've attached a photo.

Does anyone have any idea what these refer to?

Those are likely "house numbers", numbers that wholesalers add when the gun is received from the manufacturers and are registered in to their books. It makes it easier to pick out a particular gun when filling a dealer order.

Nope, just a standard Model 49.

They mean nothing about the gun as those were not applied to the label by S&W. It is not unusual for prior owners or gun shops to make notes on the factory label. Guesses noted above are as good as any!
