Just picked up these gold dots and immediately noticed a huge difference in most of the ammo. It looks as if they are pressed too far into the casing. These are 124 grain 9mm

I just compared your picture to a box of Speer 124gr I have and the short one does NOT look right. I agree you should contact Speer. Let us know how they respond. I just had a bad box of WWB and they sent a call tag and a check for more than enough to replace them. I hope Speer does as well.

I just picked up some calipers to get some measuments on them

Nope, wouldn't shoot the short ones! I have noted several QC problems with ammo in the last few months. I've had two dud rounds in the last year or so and before that I'd never had one, even shooting vintage stuff. I've also had some like your round pictured and one with a sideways primer and one with a reversed primer. It pays to look at your ammo as you load it in your magazine or cylinder.

I've been looking for a reason to buy calipers

This thread is a good reminder to check every single round you may depend upon in serious social encounters. Over the years I have ordered tons of Gold Dot for my PD and always found Speer ammo to be very consistent and with the best quality control among any ammo maker. With the recent frenzy buying and shortages the ammo companies are working full speed and more to meet the demand so mistakes will happen. Speer is a good company and will correct the issue. Bill

Very good point and I will order more gold dots in the future

Are you sure of where this ammo came from? I've seen vendors at gunshows selling Gold Dot ammo that is obviously reloaded. Could be a factory mistake, I have a round with the bullet installed upside down. Can't figure how that escaped final inspection.

It came from bulkammo.com

Just for the record, I'm not bashing Speer. It's just something I noticed and wanted to share and I appreciate the input from everyone

Speer said it had to be shipping damage. Box wasn't damaged so I so that know what really happened. Double check your ammo and be safe is all I can say

Yeah who knows why it's like that good idea to check all of your ammo before you shoot it. Once ordered a case of CCL Blazer Brass 45ACP and it was dropped along the way somewhere. Many of the bullets were setback into their cases. The individual boxes didn't really look damaged but the cardboard box they all came in was.

Did Speer offer to replace it for you?

They immediately blamed it on shipping and it could have been. They basically said sorry. Oh, and to not shoot the short ones. Maybe if I pressed the issue they may do something but I really just wanted to share the experience on this forum because I have learned a lot from people on here.

That's a disappointing reaction from an otherwise top-tier company. I would have expected better from them. I guess they feel it's impossible for them to make a mistake. Interesting view.
