Went to one of my favorite shops today and they had a handful of pistols in the used gun case that caught my eye.

My love for 32's is getting stronger nowadays since I started reloading at the beginning of the year. I picked up a transitional RP 32 a while back in good shape in the 540XXX range, love it. I also got a single six in 32H&R recently that's been a joy too.

The revolver I looked at today was a 32 Reg Police, serial 47454X. Blued, 3.5" barrel, numbers matching, rebated stocks with silver/nickel medallions, mushroom ejec knob. The only wear was on the ejector rod and a little holster wear on each side of the barrel. The marked it $575, I think I could negotiate to $550 out the door. My guess is early or late 40s, I snapped a kind crappy photo and will post here.

They also had a USP Compact 45 LNIB for $629, a Sig P227R enhanced LNIB for $799, and you can see some of it in the photo, a Colt 1911a1 US Army - parkerized, matching, OG barrel, two S stamped mags with W.B. inspection mark for $2500.

I'm still drawn to the 32 RP that I think is a transitional… what does the family think? Help me spend my allowance. Thanks!

If you don't claim it, the next time you look it'll be gone...And the next one you find will be higher...At a recent gun show I found a pair of them, one from 1932 and the other mid 50's...A little negotiation, and I left with both of them for a grand out the door...No regrets......Ben

Given the ejector rod knob, silver/nickel medallion sq butt conversion stocks, and serial number, is this gun a mixture of parts from different variants or could this be a situation where Smith and Wesson was just using what they had to get guns assembled and out the door?

I have a 38 RP from 1922 and would not have left the store without securing that 32! (Either Lay-away or purchase, whichever I had the means to do!)

Hard to say for sure but I think it may be earlier than 1940 but based on the picture and condition as you stated I would consider it at that price. It would be prudent to try to get as much as you can off the price.

I doubt it's a mixture of Parts other than the grips are from the 1930s and the gun is from the middle 1920s. You can ask to see the inside of the grips so you can tell if the serials are matching. But I don't believe so.

It's conceivable the mushroom knob and silver medallion stocks are both correct for that gun. The change orders don't take affect immediately. Check the serial # on the back side of the right stock for matching the gun.
