1952 S&W 5" K38 MSHP Combat Masterpiece
I purchased this from Doug East, the son of W.D. East, the officer that carried this K38 from Oct. 9 1952 until his some time before his retirement in 1976. At that time he either purchased the gun or , according to his son, was gifted the gun. This one shipped Oct. 3 1952 to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. There were only 356 of these made in 5" for the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and unlike many of them this one still has its original finish. It's matching numbers except for the correct style high Shoulder Magna stocks. It came with Franzite plastic stags, as I'm sure the original stocks were worn away. I believe they were a little large on it so they may be N frame. It locks up tight and shoots good. Frame under stocks look good with no return stamps. I replaced the worn rear sight with a new blade,screw and nut but the original blade, unbroken screw and nut will be included in case you want to put it back on. This one letters as a Pre 14 but the article on these state they shipped in Pre 15 boxes. The Woodlawn Boys sold one of these around 4/2016 that had been refinished once and had a possible replacement hammer for right at $1480. I'm the second owner outside of the original family and you can be the third. If you've followed these you know that they don't come up very often. I wouldn't be selling if it wasn't for a grail gun that has come up that I want. Pictures show the cosmetic condition, with blue wear from its many years of carry. It includes the plastics stags that were on it when I got it, grips shown, sight parts,factory letter, article from some of our own members about these special police guns, and a history of Lt. W.D. East typed up by his son highlighting his career. Another member has some material he can forward to the lucky buyer showing receipt by MSHP and where it was issued to W.D. East on 10/9/52, Troop D. Let's say SPF plus $30 shipping by USPS Priority Mail fully insured, from my FFL to your C&R or FFL, no CA sales please. If you don't want the diamond magnas on it, deduct $75. Payment by USPS Money Order, discreet PayPal plus 3% or Gift, or Personal check if I know you. I may be off on my price, as there aren't a lot of these out there with a sale history, other than the one mentioned earlier. But make a reasonable offer and if not sold before I get back to you I'll consider it. Post in thread with an "I'll take it" followed by a PM.
