…a vague but powerful sense of danger or creepiness based on intuition"

I used to carry most of the time but for a while now I haven't. No particular reason, probably just laziness or complacency. Lately I've started to feel uneasy just going about my daily routine. I can't really put my finger on it. I find myself in a hurry and not really checking my surroundings. When I get home, I say to myself - next time out, I need to be carrying.

I used to think my area of town, neighborhood etc. was safe but then then you see things on tv and realize it can happen anywhere.

Anyone else out there with "spidey-sense"?

"Spidey sense" is as good a phrase as any that describe that feeling that something ain't right. It saved my butt a couple times as a LEO, and maybe a time or two in normal life.

Usually an unexpected scare tends to knock that complacity away pretty quick, and get you back on track.

At this time, nobody is safe anywhere in our beloved Republic. Criminals run the streets and the police are hamstrung by woke policies. You are the "first responder". Carry, take a 1st aid class, and keep your head on a swivel. Pray! Donate to the SAF, GOA, NRA, and any local organizations.

I don't know if I'd call it "spidey sense" or just plain, down-to-earth smarts. Like Rudi and Puller have alluded, Mayberry just ain't the same anymore. We've got idiots out there who have absolutely no respect for laws or law enforcement. They prey upon the elderly, the unsuspecting, and the vulnerable.

As I was reminded time and time again years ago while growing up, "Common sense is the least common of all the senses." Be grateful your common sense is telling you to be prepared.

I think the time will come in the not-too-distant future where more and more of the populace will realize that if they want to remain safe, they may have to take a more assertive approach and carry...and not rely on someone else to protect them.

I have never had a premonition nor a strong, discernable "spidey sense" moment.

I believe, however, that may be because synapses must fire in the correct order to keep the receptors in tune.

I should check my dwell time.

My carrying a gun has little to do with a feeling of impending danger. I could be set upon at Cracker Barrel.

There's been a few times that I've had that "spidey-sense" feeling, and I NEVER ignore it. Perhaps it's a case of paranoia, or fear, but that "somethings not right" feeling screams out. I profile and avoid crowds as a normal trait. If someone or a group of someones triggers the feeling, I clear the area immediately. Don't know if it works, but I'm still kicking.

My most memorable "spidey sense" or premonition came when I was teaching behind the wheel driver's ed. At the end of the school year something told me not to get back into one of those cars again. It just gave me a strange feeling of dread. It was an after school part time job and I told the supervisor I was done. When I told him why he just shrugged and said he didn't blame me one bit. I never got back into one of those cars again.

There is a really interesting book about the "spidey-sense" instinct called "The Gift Of Fear" by Gaven De Becker. Lots of insights into human behavior and predicting potential violent encounters.

I normally take extra precautions and try to keep alert..

…when I'm leaving a retail store, I look around (head swivel) and if there is someone close behind me, I'll stop abruptly like I forgot something in the store and let whoever it is get in front of me.

..park as close as possible to the front door and keep my eyes open… etc. etc.

It's just something lately that I've felt on a couple of occasions and not any specific threat or situation.

By the way, I've got a new Galco ambidextrous holster on order. :) It'll take a small 2" revolver and can be set up for cross draw.

Call it "Spidey Sense", or "Premonition", or as I prefer "My Guardian Angel whispered a warning", It's a real thing. I have often failed to listen when I should have, fortunately with no great consequences so far, but deep down I knew better each time.

One instance really sticks out in my mind however. I was pulling my bass boat home from a weekend trip and was making a high speed run at a long hill pull I knew was coming up. I was in the far left of three lanes and rolling along at about 80 + mph. It was a long curve to my right, with a rather deep ditched median on my left.

Suddenly I had a strong thought, that I would be in serious trouble if I suddenly had a blowout on my boat trailer. It was strong enough that I checked my mirrors and started moving back to the far right lane out of caution, as I began slowing down.

I swear, I had no longer made it to the right lane and reduced my speed to about 55, then I heard a loud BLAMMM!!!! and the right tire on my boat trailer blew out!

It weaved and wobbled a bit, but nothing like what would have happened if I'd been in the outer lane running 80 MPH! I got to the side and thanked the Good Lord for the "heads up". I was shaken for sure, but very thankful for the warning.

Listen to your "instincts", your sudden thoughts that seem to come out of nowhere,..... the "what if" thoughts. They are coming to you for a reason.

I believe it with all my heart and soul. God watches over his own. No doubt.

Some years ago I was on my way to work. I had a green light and was about to turn left. Something made me hesitate, and a woman blew through the intersection doing probably 40. She would have gotten me in the left door.

I tell people / recruits when I taught classes that we all have that little alarm bell that goes off when something isn't right - PAY ATTENTION TO IT !!! React and move !
All my vehicles come with a "green light detector" that sits in the passenger seat. Transfers to whatever vehicle I am driving somehow…. When I hesitate to go on green it goes off. Like pmanton above I have witnessed close calls and always wait a second or two before proceeding despite the multiple announcements of "it's green - hello ! It's green !!!!"
