I picked up a Model 25-5, 3 1/2 inch barrel, in .45 Colt that has an extra cylinder in .45 ACP fitted to it and came with an extra bobbed hammer. The gun has been nickel (I was told) plated. The Smith & Wesson roll mark on the barrel has been replaced with "SPOKHANDGUNS INC." Could anyone give me some more information on this customization? I understand Spok Handguns was a gunsmith located in Spokane, Washington.

Thanks,
DDMcCrud

Spokanguns was a going concern from early1980s to 1990. Vern Ewer was the name of the owner/smith. A lot of his work was featured in Combat Handguns during that time.

He had a penchant for 3.3" N Frames and building K frame 5 shot 44Spls. My favorite was a 3.3" 45 M&P style N frame built on a 58 frame with a 25 45 ACP cylinder and shortened 25 bbl with the gripframe reduced to K frame round butt dimensions.

He at one time was armorer for the Hanford Nuclear facility.

He has retired as a gunsmith. He's also a nice guy.

Welcome aboard, DDMcCrud!

Nice looking gun.

Here is a Model 58 Vern converted to 45 Colt. Barrel is 3.25". It has an incredibly smooth action.

Wow he did neat stuff. I wish he was still in business I would have a project like one of those for him.

Thanks for the information. I was a little hesitant to buy it not knowing anything about the conversion, but I've always wanted a .45 Colt/.45 ACP combo. It does have an incredibly smooth action and the work looks great. I was able to buy this one for little more than a standard model 25.
