Sport vs. Standard?

The Sport model is meets and exceeds most shooters needs. S&W R&D did their homework on this one. Think about it, they cut minor gadgits and added the more important features and still kept the price very reasonable so new AR shooters could buy into an entry level rifle. Others now follow.

Like many things in shooting, bbl differences effect accuracy a lot less than the skill of the shooter. Accuracy is one of the strongpoints of the AR 15 platform vs. AKs, etc. Sub MOA groups are pretty commonly reported with most ARs, bench fired with skilled shooters.

As others have said, what YOU like is what counts most. Forty dollar quad rails are not free floating and usually pretty heavy.

The UTG quad rail I got off amazon, while noticeable, is not really too bad. Mine only really gets heavy when I start hanging stuff on it. That's a good way to see if you even like having a quad rail. You can always upgrade later.

Just picked up my 15T today. Love it.
It has the 1-8" 5R, dust cover and forward assist.
LGS ordered it and I paid 960 plus shipping and tax. 23 more out the door than Bud's, but this way I supported my local one man shop. As a retired vet, I also get a 100 rebate from S&W.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal at all Chief! Especially if that $960 is before rebate. Congrats!

That might be true but you really can't compare it to the 15T model's factory free float rail and imply the price of the T isn't justified by the extra features. Sorry if that wasn't what you were meaning to say.

I actually didn't say that at all. Not everyone need a high dollar rail. I got mine because I didn't even know I was going to like a quad rail and didn't want to spend a lot of money till I'd tried one so I pick up the $40 one. I found that it fit very my rifle very well and looked good. I have had no issues at all with it and really see no need to buy a more expensive one. Free floated rails are completely different and not really comparable to the standard two-piece. I have absolutely desire to free float my Sport as it is already crazy accurate. I also like that I can take the quad rail off at any time in about a minute if I want to use regular hand guards.
To each, his own.

The biggest advantage of the Sport is more room for accessory acquisition.

An AR15 isn't a weapon in the traditional sense-its really a subscription plan. Purchasing the rifle is simply a down payment on the monthly bill for new stocks, new grips, new mags, scopes, scope mounts, rails, lights, etcetera.Tactical AR15s are sexy guns;they're also hideously expensive. Unlike SEAL Team 6, most of us have a practical budget to work inside of. The Sport's biggest advantage is that you can get into the AR15 club and afford a few choice acessories, without busting $2000.
