When I get a trip to a town with a Sportsman's Warehouse, I always stop by looking for reloading supplies. About 1/2 the time, I'll luck out and find something I could use. Well, yesterday, I was in Memphis, Tn to find the S.W. is going out of buisness. That was a freaking surprise. They are even selling the store fixtures. Needledd to say they had little to no reloading supplies. They only some odd ball (to me) rifle bullets.

I looked through their boots, but I'd swear they had them marked up, just so they could mark them back down. There's one more place to mark off my list for supplies. Their components were generally priced ok.

Hunting section in our local store (in Federal Way for those who know it) looked like they got robbed. I asked what's up. Turned out Sportsman's ran out of credit line and got bought by a different company. 25 stores across the country will be closed; remaining 15 or so will get re-supplied through a fresh credit. Apparently local store will stay in business; they told me to expect lots of new stuff (guns, components, ammo) very shortly. We shall see...

HERE TOO,

The Sportsmans Warehouse here in Nampa, ID is liquidating their remaining merchandize, fixtures etc.. According to the terms of the bankruptcy they are going to be able to keep 29 stores open. Interesting thing is, this store has never had a losing month since it opened approx. two yrs. ago. Just didn't make enough apparently.

Here too. 1 store is liquidating, the other two seem to be continueing, none have reloading components.

HoPtob,
Good link looks like they are getting out of most of the country and focusing on the Northwest. Perhaps that is a more realistic strategy, it must be a bear to get decent efficiency shipping to such a large area with so few outlets?

Rumor has it that one of the stores staying open will be in Meridian, ID. It's a shame to see the new one in Nampa closing. It's a shame to see any of them closing. Around here they were the last reason to avoid cabela's. They aren't resupplying ANYTHING as yet. They has a grand total of 7 boxes of bullets on the shelves two days ago. No primers and only three cans of powder. It definitely looks like they are bankrupt and going out of business. I just hope the stores that stay open don't get hurt in the future too bad from the lack of service and selection they are giving right now.

Not to start something or get flamed but what is the attraction of Sportsmans Warehouse?

I don't live near one so I only stop by when traveling. They always had a good selection of stuff, but the prices are high. Almost without exception our small town gun shop had better prices. Many times would have to order an item but the price was almost always lower.

Sportsmans is not nor ever has been a be-all,end-all sporting goods store but is(was) one more place to look for name brand merchandise. It has carried a decent supply of shooting, camping, fishing tackle and archery tackle with mostly knowledgable employees, unlike most of the big-box stores. Their prices have mostly been reasonable. There is no one store that can carry everything but if you have a good variety of stores most things can eventually be found.

My last Sportsmans Warehouse purchase was for 5000 Remington 209 shotgun primers. They had a better price up front than Cabelas which is only 1 mile away and when I checked out they added an additional 10% discount for buying a case.
Worked for me and I hate to see them go away. Brian

I checked the link above. The Lexington KY store is not on either list. I am guessing that there are really 3 lists: stores to be closed, or sold or will remain open. I will have to check out the local store this weekend.

The San Antonio store isn't even listed on their web site but it is closing as well as the Round Rock store. They list Legacy, TX. No idee where that is.

When they were up and running, it was worth the 40 mi drive for the savings. No Mas!!

I live here in Phoenix Arizona, I never heard a thing about them closing the doors till I went into town one day and the doors were closed. The giant bronze elk was gone so I figured they went belly up when Cabelas came into town and killed them. Thats too bad. I suspected something when the inventory of firearms was drying up behind the counter. Another good store gone to big Box Retail Giants. Soon it will be bass pro and Cabelas compeating for your money. And they are not cheap...it costs money to keep those fish tanks clean.

Blame the owner...too aggresive with expansion, a wild life style, and other issues.....
Some of the stores were sold to a Canadian Conglomerate United Food Growers of Ablerta? Because they were going to buy the whole kit and kaboodle....but that did not fly. So, for their infusion of capital they got 15 stores mostly in the midwest to the northwest...most of the closing stores should be finished with liquidation by the first of May.

the stores in oregon are no better..... the shelfs are pretty bare
