spotting scope question

For all of my competitive shooting career I have used an angled eyepiece and it has served me well. I have an older Accuspot with a straight 20x angled eyepiece on a Freeland stand.

Today my oldest daughter was asking me about which spotting scope to watch birds/wildlife from inside the car and was asking me if a straight eyepiece would be a better choice when using a window mount or even from the tripod.

What are your thoughts fellow members?

I have a window mount and I like the angled eye piece better, with the straight I have to bend down to much to see, its hard on my neck.

Using a window mount , I would recommend the straight eye piece.

I have one of each and for me the straight one is easier to get line up with. But, I have spent more time with it and kind of neglect the other. May well be just what you get used to using.

Straight for a window mount would be much easier for most people, but I prefer the straight for all uses. This really winds up as a compromise situation, so you might try both. I think most would agree that neither a straight or angled is perfect for every situation.

I prefer straight, especially when watching moving birds and animals. I can use angled for rifle shooting at stationary targets but I get along fine with straight in that case, too.

I do agree that probably what we get used to influences our thinking on this subject. Most of the guys I talk to use angled and think I’m a bit of a heretic because I prefer straight.

I've wondered why a spotting scope instead of a small tripod telescope?
Differences with the objective? A multitude of mounts are available.

My old S Scope has both options on it with four screw in powers.

I don't know a lot about window mounts, but some cars are using curved side glass, and it can be thinner that the old days. The mounts I have seen have been for pickups.
