If a Savage Model 99 with the rotary magazine is kept loaded for an extended period of time, will the magazine spring weaken and reliability be compromised? Would the same considerations that apply to detatchable box magazines also apply to the rotary magazine? Or is there a difference from an engineering perspective?

This question seems to degenerate into a debate of whether or not a 99 is a suitable house gun or patrol rifle, so I'd like to keep it spring related please!

Dave, I can't answer your question from an engineering stand point. But I have two M-99's, one a 1908 date of mfg. and the other a 1910 date of mfg. Both have seen very little use over the years, and both mag. function just fine. Both have spent quite a bit of time unloaded. I also have a 1948 model that I use that has spent time being packed around the timber, loaded without any sign of mag. problems. Dave
