Spring has Sprung

Wads of yellow pollen on the windshield. Get some on yer hand and rub your eye, you'll think you been peppersprayed. At least I don't have to run the A/C at night. Joe

Wildflowers in the desert, the trill of snowmelt flowing in normally dry streams and washes, the divine fragrance of orange blossoms in the city (lots of orchard remnants, even in the heart of the city)and the berserk, maddeningly incessant calling of mockingbirds.

Heat, and it's a stark reminder that I didn't finish all of my outside projects while it was cooler.

Means I'll be able to see the ground again. For the next couple of weeks it means the driveway will be a muddy mess. Daughter's softball season is starting. Watching a bunch of 7 & 8 year olds chasing the ball around is always fun. For work, spring means no logging jobs to supervise, likely until 1st of June. Other, less profitable work until then. Spring means maple sap is running and the boiling has started, yum!

Here in Michigan's U.P., it means an inch of new snow on the first day of Spring.

We did have a week of high 40s to low 60s days and 30+ degree nights so lost a lot of snow recently.

My uncle used to claim that here we have:
"Nine months of winter and three months of bad sledding."
The older I get the more he seems to have been correct.

The smell of clean fresh air. During the winter months our air is filled with the scent of cheap lilac perfume worn by the old women that migrate here in the winter.

Spring means it's comfortable enough to make regular trips to the range.

I try to celebrate the Sacred Vernal Equinox in a traditional way. Some years the weather doesn't cooperate. This year it did. So, I purchased fresh gasoline and mowed the lawn.

BTW, the mower started on the first pull.

...Spring's here when the Hummingbirds return to the feeder...we're at 9500 feet elevation...so that's not 'til the first or second week in May usually...

Same thing here only with a lot of humidity thrown into the mix. By the middle of April it will already be to the point that you can't mow your yard at 7A.M. without being drenched in sweat. Normally there are at least spectacular wildflower displays in Spring, but the drought has pretty much ruined that. October can't get here soon enough.
