Reposting this. May have had it in the wrong thread first time.

I just took my new M&P Shield to the range and fired 200 rounds through it. Worked great with only 1 misfeed. When I brought it home to clean I noticed the thin round back piece of the slide assembly was bent where it sits in the notch on the barrel. I called Customer Service and explained what had happened. I was told this IS NORMAL. ??? So I was told to just turn it a little bit so it not on the bent section. So I questioned this and said so everytime I shoot it it will bend again. I was told this problem should go away and if it doesn't I am to call back. This sounds crazy to me. Anyone else seen this problem???? I never have on any other semi I own.

OK. That's not right. I think I'd contact S&W again and send this picture. It really shows what the issue is.
That part of the recon spring assembly is very strong and should not bend during normal use.

While not a common problem with the Shields, this has happened to quite a few. I bent mine, and have read several other posts with the same problem. S&W mailed me a new one - after offering "it doesn't hurt a thing even if it's bent". That part of the spring on the Shields is noticeably thinner than on the the rest of the M&P line.

tonesurfer I was told the same thing. A guy said they get them from an outside source and once in a while they see this problem. He assured me it would not have any effect on the gun operating safely which I have to trust him. But it looks bad and I would think S&W would have this fixed. He told me not to throw my bent one away. If the new one doesn't bend I am going to put the bent one in and fire away just to see if it operates properly. Overall they were helpful and S&W.

Fixed?

Happy to say I received my new assembly a few days ago and finally got to the range. Put about 200 rounds through it and the new piece did not bend. So now it has about 400 round fired with only 2 hiccups where the shells did not eject. Not bad. I feel comfortable enough to carry it now. GOOD NEWS
