I've shot a couple XD series pistols with no problems. Big paws, size 20 / 21 ring.

Reminds me of the time I was instructing a class from the Public Health Service that were going to be assigned to various Federal Prisons. One guy caught my eye on the range by the way he was holding his pistol (a Ruger P-85 DA semi). Right hand, supporting left hand, with thumb over his right hand, under the slide. Had a small cut, and was acting scared of the gun. Told and showed him, for the umpteenth time, how to hold it. He did so, and started looking good.
Focused on another shooter for a minute when I heard someone yelling "cease fire". Looked back at the PA, and his gun was on the ground, his hand covered in blood. Thought he had shot himself. Turns out he went back to his old thumb placement, and cut his left thumb to the bone with the slide. The only reason he stopped shooting was because the gun was too slippery with blood to hang onto. Mind you, this guy had already had four days of classroom / range time.
Nothing to do with the OP's post really, just I'm retired and like to tell old war stories once in a while....
