I attended an auction yesterday. I went there to buy some accessories and was not really looking for a firearm.
I marked down all the accessories that I wanted, and then went and checked out the 120 some firearms.
There were several that I marked down. As the auction went on, the firearms were going close to if not more than they were worth.
This Springfield came up for bid with a Marvel 1911 conversion kit on it. It did not have a magazine nor the original 45 slide and barrel, etc. Everything was there for the Marvel conversion, except the magazine. These firearms were all in the possession of a local police department for almost a year. The guy that owned them was a competition shooter, and had plenty of ammo and magazines.
Of all the firearms, autos, ak's, army rifles, etc, only a couple ended up with magazines. And there was not much ammo either. This is not my opinion, it was also stated by the auctioneer. So, something happened to all the magazines and ammo, and the original slide and barrel for this Springfield.
I ended up with this Springfield with no magazine for 380.00 after the tax and buyers fee. It is not the low end one. It has the target trigger, hammer, larger ramp throat, etc. I am trying to figure out which model it is. Also, it has a really good trigger.
Anyway, I did not get a magazine. I checked on line last night, and for the Marvel, the mags are 59.99 for the steel, and 29.99 for the composite. Does anyone know if the composite ones are any good?
Also, I would like to maybe be able to put it back to 45acp, but I cannot find a Springfield slide reasonable. I found a Colt slide that would work.
The frame is stainless, and the slide is bare metal. I would also need a barrel and bushing, and I am not sure what else.
Should I leave it the way it is just for 22's, or should I invest in the parts to put it back to 45?
What do you think on the price and what I should do as far as putting it back to 45.
I think the way it is, once I get a mag, it should be a nice practice auto, and should be fun to shoot.
