Springfield Armory SA 35

I want a SA 35. When I can find one I will buy it either straight out, trade, layaway, etc. No real reason. Have had Browning HP's. To get them tweaked up, i.e., trigger, sights, etc., just not worth it. The SA 35 has all the tweaks ... and I won't break the bank buying it or shooting it. Sincerely. bruce.

Not hard to find 9mm around here, but at 20 bucks a box for ball, I'll wait a while.

I'm referring to a year from now, toss up if ammo situation gets better , worse or same. Bought FMJ for 18 a box the other day, had plenty on shelf. Went back next day and all gone. Either the show scalpers are hard at work or folks are stocking up?

1st off, I'm not interested in a HP.

That said, I wouldn't pay MSRP, let alone over it, because something is the hot, new "Flavor of the Month ".

Like the morons who pay a premium for a trendy new vehicle.

Eventually supply will catch up with demand, and the prices will return to normal.

JMHO YMMV.

They're good people at KTP, and a great store/gun store... Love their used gun selection, especially the hunting rifles and shotguns.

That said, I've noticed a few shady online gun dealer sites, that definitely look like scams. These days you can tell they're a scam site because they have every gun available to purchase, and at good prices prices! They usually don't have contact address and/or phone, business hours, don't do traditional credit cards, etc. People need to be careful out there!

I'm interested in one of these new Hi Powers, but will wait for reality pricing locally. Squid, glad you are getting yours. Range report soon...?

We stopped in Kittery on the way up to Bar Harbor some years ago. KTP being a great gun store is an understatement.

We caught HW Bush going out for a ride on the way home.

There's a website on the net that has Springfield guns in their name, appearing to mimic the real Springfield Armory.

They always have SA guns "in stock" and below MSRP, even the ones that no one else in the world has. Beware.

There's also one that has Winchester in their name. They have a UT address but no phone # and no email. They also have every catalog model of new Winchester rifle available below MSRP.

Hmmmm? I haven't seen some of those models available anywhere in 3 years. It's just a website that will take your money if you want to give it to them.

Some "dealers" will also take your deposit and place an order for you. New car dealerships are also doing that. When you take delivery the price is somehow a lot higher then it was when you placed your order.

Lots of scams out there these days.

If you got the new American Rifleman and noticed the new SA 35 on the cover and thought like I did WOW msrp price 699! I found one on Guns America the price was 1299!!! I don't believe I will be getting one I'm way to old. Jeff

I have read about it in a couple different magazines, and it sounds good.

The problem is I'm not sure it will be able to be sold here in NY. According to all that I read the only magazine options are the large ones, no mention of a 10 rounder for us citizens in NY.

I believe there are 10 rounders available for the original Browning HP, so I would assume they will fit the new version. The question is will our dealers be able to sell this gun in the state.

Don't understand the SA35 having problems, when everything that can be known about a Hi Power IS known and has been for many years......

Randy

You would think that, but when a company introduces a new product they've never made before all sorts of little gremlins can pop up. All it takes is failing to adhere to a tolerance here or a heat-treating spec there and the whole operation goes to pot.

Regardless of the precision in machining, it takes some quality hand fitting to make a new gun work well straight out of the box. I hope SA can afford to do that for what they are selling the guns for. Otherwise, it will fall on the new owners to either send them back for fine tuning, or have a local smith do the work, or tackle it themselves. I have a SA EMP4 that I really like, but it has occasional issues with feed jams, which I've chased until I discovered it is VERY sensitive to OAL of the cartridge and the shape of the projectile (round nose FMJ feeds perfectly, tapered JHP's not so well). The more I shoot it, the better it gets, so I'm attributing it to a tolerance that was a little too tight, probably on the feed ramp.

I've always wanted a BHP, but what I've read over the years about their "quirks" has always put me off (hammer bite, magazine disconnect, etc.) That SA has slightly altered the design to eliminate these quirks, basically giving us the BHP everybody wants, has renewed my interest in getting one, especially at the MSRP advertised. I won't pay more than that for one, though, I refuse to fall under the bus of over-eager buyers and dealers who want to take advantage of them. Luckily, I now have an "in" to getting reasonable deals; my next-door neighbor (and tenant) is my LGS owner, and he lets me know when get gets something in that I may be interested in.

I'm thinking SA wants that huge market and will make 10 rd mags.

FWIW, there is a semi weekly newsletter , " The Tactical Wire" published by former LEO's/ shooters, one did a 3 part review of new P-35. As mentioned there were extraction issues but quickly fixed with Wolfe Spring kit. I will wait a year? or so to look for one too. Most likely hard to find ammo for it regardless.

Sounds like what I suspected, SA is using a cheap vendor for the springs. When a pistol works fine at first but develops extraction issues after awhile it's nearly always the fault of a weak extractor spring or a poorly heat-treated extractor. Fortunately since we're talking about a common design the aftermarket already has a solution for it.

BH Spring Solutions has all sorts of kits to upgrade the BHP and all the others. They will also install the springs and tune extractors etc. They have thoroughly examined the SA-35 and done a detailed analysis of the SA-35. It has a few things that need tweaking. I have read everything out there about the gun and I think is is a winner. I want one and will get one once they are available at a decent price.

My main beef with the SA-35 is that it is too original. They should have enlarged the beavertail so we could avoid the whining from those who insist on getting their hands in the moving parts when shooting.
