Springfield Armory's New Hi-Power

I like what I see so far. It ticks all the right boxes for me except that I am a lefty and would have to have an ambi safety installed. I have a a super nice custom, hard chromed older model with all the right stuff. I love the HP.

I'm a big fan of the BHP and have a few. Some have the internal extractor and some have the external and both are amazingly dependable. My daily carry is a BHP with all the BHSS goodies, including the SFS.

I have asked my local dealer to order me one of the SA 35's as well. It would have some family already here to make it feel comfortable.

BTW, one of my favorite movies was "Serpico", starring Al Pacino, and when he realizes he has internal police problems he goes out and buys a BHP. The dealer asks him if he thinks he is going to take on an army and he replies, No, just a division". This was way before the Wonder 9/high capacity craze hit America square in the mouth.

Gun shop owner : That gun takes a 14 shot clip. You expecting an army?

Frank Serpico : No. Just a division.

My first HP was a 60's era that I had Wilson put a set of original Kensight adjustables on; great gun. Lower frame group and barrel were Metalloyed by their orignal owner in Tulsa.

Second HP was a 1995 Practical two tone. Cast slide and frame. Even though it was a 9mm and I only ran standard pressure loads through it I could tell, due to slide and frame deformations, it wasn't a long term gun. It went away.

Think I'm interested in SA's new HP offering.

I'd given up on finding a decent Hi Power at a reasonable price, so this is welcome news. That price is particularly welcome, since my mad money is a little low after buying a P-210 Target and a '63 Ford Galaxie last month.

BTW, in the above-cited TFB video, there is a jam near the start. Shows a shooter loading a magazine and the gun jamming open on the 1st round. Gotta look quick! Check 6.

Shield #5103

15 seconds in a guy inserts a mag, fires a shot then does a press check.

At 7:16 a guy puts in a mag, slingshots the slide, fires a shot and the action stays open. You cannot see if there is a stovepipe because of the camera angle, even going frame by frame.

It could be operator error. Look at his grip and where the slide lock is positioned. People didn't hold guns like that in 1935, and inadvertent application of the slide lock is a well known thing with the Hi Power and a thumbs forward grip.

Anybody know if it's designed with a FP safety or not? Been looking high and low and can't find out.

I am sure I will see one in my LGS just like all those pythons I see. I will believe when I see it…..until then I will stick with my hi-powers.

$699 MSRP!!??!! For an all metal, hammer fired gun? With FORGED frame, slide and parts!!?

But all the trolls say it "..can't be done today!..." "..It would cost over a THOUSAND to buy a gun made like that today." ;)

My SA35 is on order at my dealer. :) Glad I didn't sell all my old High Power mags. Regards 18DAI

the new one has 15 rd magazines. the grip might be a bit longer.

One reason the price is reasonable is it looks like a black phosphate finish, not polished and blued.

Wow, can't believe the press drop hit today, and there's already a huge thread on it. Lotsa fans here, for sure.

.

Nope, as most of the vids have mentioned they are good-to-go with existing magazines. There would be torch-carrying mobs at their door if they built this for a PROPRIETARY magazine and only included ONE, LOL. :D

I'm guessin' their interpretation of Made In USA means, assembled, and/or packaged IN the USA. Some forget that the 1911's are built on Brazilian produced frames (& slides?).

James Reeve's review, on TFB TV, was the only one who mentioned{at 7:15}, "The trigger reset is not as good as I would like...".That's an unfortunate consequence of eliminating the disconnector guts. I'm a weirdo who LIKEs said innards because of the quicker reset it provides, LOL.

Looks good, glad that they did away with the mag safety.

Only wish that they had included an ambi thumb safety for us lefties. However, I will wait a bit, and see if others are able to drop in the SFS, which I have in my FN and my Tisas. I have an FEG, but dimensionally it would not accept the SFS so it is stock.

At least the right grip is already contoured for the ambi safety. They'll probably be selling those in their online store.

I'm kinda surprised they're not introducing an SA-35C for the CC market. That can't be far off.

According to the video it is completely made in USA.
I love BHPs but I am not a 9mm fan

I despise the Heinie-Nine, it's just un-American.

But I might make an exception in this case.

Have 2 BHP clones, only beef with the HP is the mags are hard to load. Noticed on the Brownells site they describe it as striker fired when it obviously isn't. Be interested in seeing one on person.

Everything I've read so far only indicates the frame, slide and barrel are forged. The small parts will undoubtedly be of MIM manufacturing. The last two Belgian HPs I owned had MIM small parts and zero issues. Springfield usually does MIM well, so I don't see it as an issue. Those of you getting stoked about forged parts need to pay closer attention.
