Although I have not yet got around to shooting this one I have to say I am impressed with the quality. Picked it up a few years ago in a trade up in the Seattle area and Springfield did a nice job.

I have several original WWI and WWII military surplus 1911's around to compare and I really do like this piece.

May have to get it out and see how she performs on the range some day.

I also own a Norinco copy of the 1911A1 and it also is quite nicely done.

Very nice! Put on a set of reproduction plastic grips and you have a great reenactor's pistol. Keep that parkerized finish oiled so that you don't have a rusty reenactor's pistol.

Even the sights are mil-spec. At my age, I much prefer something I can easily see. I spent enough time with the mil-spec sights in my youth.

I was going to comment about the sights, too. I’m surprised. The ones I’ve seen have more modern sights that look noticeably different than what your pistol has. If I am going to buy a mil-spec type pistol, I would rather it be like yours - as close as possible to what Uncle Sam bought.

I’m fortunate enough to have some pretty nice 1911s and can tell you that for the money, SA mfg’s a great pistol. I’ve owned a Range Officer for the last four years and it has been flawless.

The tiny mil-spec sights are hard to pick up quickly and all but impossible in low light conditions. But, and maybe it's just me, with them being so narrow, they make pretty good sights for precision shooting.

What you have is the WW II GI model product code PW9108L basically a copy of the 1911A1 service pistol . The MilSpec model product code PB9108L has a lowered flared ejection port , high profile fixed hardball sights & later ones have 1 piece Stainless barrels . I've built both bullseye wadcutter & CMP / EIC hardball guns on the Milspec models . Since the Range Officer came out it's a better choice as slide to frame fit is better as are barrels . Usually a new NM bushing , maybe an O/S slide stop ( if needed ) to increase upper lug engagement & if for service pistol a GI beavertail & spur hammer along with a small radius firing pin stop & some spring changes to match ammo used will allow a beginning shooter to compete without having to spend money to have a gun built .

Thank you for the product code and clarification on what model this is......I do not have the original sticker/tag on the case so I had no idea. Makes sense being so close to the WWII GI guns that I own.

Great minds think alike.....I ordered a set last week.....should have them soon and they will make the gun look more correct for sure.

I've owned a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911-A1 for several years now and have been very pleased with it. Sure, I prefer revolvers, but I do have a couple of 1911's. I mean, heck, everybody needs at least one 1911. Right? Especially here in Utah where in March 2011 Governor Gary Herbert signed the bill into law making the model 1911 the official state firearm. :) And the Springfield is a great gun.

I have enjoyed shooting the Springfield Mil-Spec. It is as good a shooter 1911 as any.

A local gunsmith played with this gi some years back.He fit a tight bushing, crowned the barrel, gave it a trigger job, checkered the front strap, installed a long trigger, flat msh and a wide spur hammer and replaced the sights. It became my favorite shooter and go to field gun for years. Its one of those guns you know you can hit with [emoji16]
