I like square butt J frames.

My question is, were there ever any square butt centennials or hump back bodyguards (like the 49, 38, 649) made with square butts?

Here are few of mine:

36-1 3"
37-0 3"
31-1 2"

I also have a 37-0 2" but no picture of it.

Please post pictures of yours.

No, S&W didn't make square butt Centennials or Bodyguards.

Here are a few of my favorite square butt Chiefs:

October 1953 Airweight, 29522, 1 of 923 square butts with an aluminum cylinder, according to Dr. Jinks

May 1956, 55693, Bright blue finish

October 1959, Model 36

December 1962, Model 36, nickel

I had a square butt nickel M36. Bought it from a former Oklahoma LEO in the early 80s for 125 bucks. Carried it a lot in a specially built briefcase, way before the concealed carry law was passed. I never really liked it so I gave it to a friend when he told me he wanted a J frame for his wife. Actually, that was fun, because I mailed it to his house out of state and I think he fainted when he opened the box. Long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. :D

He's long gone now, and more's the pity, he was one of the best friends I ever had. We swapped a lot of of guns through the mail over the years. Bad boys! Vietnam vet, LA Sheriff's Office retiree, gun dealer at some point in time, super gun knowledgeable, and all around great man. I still miss him. :(

But thanks for the memories!

I, too, prefer my J frame revolvers with square butts. I frames too. I find I'm able to shoot them better than the round butts, since they fit my hand better and put my trigger finger in the right place with less effort.

I carried this Model 36 of 1964 vintage for several years:

I no longer carry it because I was able to purchase old ivory stocks for it from a fellow SWCA member. If I ever had to use it for defense, I didn't want those ivories to end up in a PD property room. I don't have a photo of it wearing ivory.

There are several grip manufactories who make round butt to square butt conversion grips that feel and look like stock J frame square butts. I've had several on J frame Centennial & Bodyguard models over the past 50 years. For me they feel better with a T grip. One manufacturer is Altamount. Herretts custom makes their detective stocks to achieve round to square or at least they used to.

Pardon my ignorance but is there such a thing as a lightweight J frame with a square butt? I have a 342-1 and several pre model 10 square butt snubnose rebolvers. All the nice revolvers posted here look like steel frame guns.

In my initial post I posted a picture of a Model 37.

Model 37s are Aluminum frame AirWeights. I have two of them with square butts.

Below is a 2" 37. Weighs a little over 14 oz.
