I came across a 686 that someone had done a homemade engraving job on. The kind of shallow engraving you see on some jewelry. I went to work with some extra fine grit wet-dry sandpaper and I was amazed. Looking at the gun now nobody would ever know that this gun had been abused so. I am now a big stainless fan, it's almost as forgiving as rover.

This is why I love stainless revolvers. Most of them can really clean up well and look nice again. Nice work.

Cleaned up well. I prefer stainless because it is so forgiving and you don't have to worry about blueing and all that can go wrong with it.

I bought a 686 that had honestly been used as a truck gun. It cleaned up too good.

Had a 4" 65 that was a previous service gun of some sorts. They chiseled the serial number under the barrel. Was trying to trade it towards a LNIB no dash 67. Dude said the serial number was a deal breaker for him. Thought about a way to remove it. No sand paper would ever touch it, so I got out a fine file and went to work. Next day I had a killer model 67.

That weak engraving on that gun wouldn't even make me pause if the price was good. Super easy to make disappear..

I really like a nice blued rifle, pistol or shotgun with a walnut furniture. However stainless or whatever Glock uses is my choice for working firearms.

Yep, nice job: SS is nice to work with; bluing not so much; and as much as I love a beautiful nickel revolver ( I own only one), other than some gentle polishing, you get what you get.:D

Stainless is an easy to maintain finish and small imperfections or shallow engravings are often easy to remove. The lack of having to re-blue or re-plate makes working on stainless firearms much easier.

I'm in the midst of removing some stippling off a 60, and am amazed at the results so far. Not that it's easy! ;)
