I don't know if it is true or not, but I heard that they had some unregistered machineguns. We know that is big trouble.

The story I read was somewhat vague on the details of the charges, seems mainly like poor (or nonexistent) recordkeeping. But the story also mentioned something about there being an NFA weapon or weapons on the premises not registered to the company.

Poor record keeping has sunk more than one firearms business in the last few years. They get onto a bandwagon, the money starts rolling in and the attention to detail goes South.

As for Stag rifles, they do what they say on the can.

When you don't file any type of the paperwork, class I or class III, you aren't paying the taxes. That is the biggest No-No in the government's eyes. I'm not sure on class I manufacturing, but on class III payment precedes anything leagle! But I bet they were spot checked before renewal of their license.

It wasn't just poor record keeping. They also had un serialized recievers. The excuse was the guy who handles that is on vacation. The ATF came back later and those receivers were still not serialized. And it wasn't one or two but several hundred. The other no-no was that they transported these or other un serialized receivers from one location to another.

The Government loses firearms daily, keeps lousey records and does all kind of felonious deals and loses automatic weapons every once and awhile nothing happens.
Stag Arms deserves an apology, put back in business and given a small fine.
Those Hypocritical Bast***S in Washington need to be cleaned out. They have a lot of nerve pulling **** like this.

Anyone who has spent time in a "production area" of weapon systems (In the 1970's I worked for a subcontractor to McDonnell-Douglas on the F-18 Stores Management Processor) routinely deals with "assemblies" in various states of completion. The "serialization" process is a minor detail and happens when convenient to the process. The Feds wanted an outcome and they got it. Joe
