Just got a 3" Magna ported 629-4. Luv it! Were they ever made with stainless hammer and trigger? It seems to be a bit more shiny than my other stainless Smiths. No box or papers.
Thanks,E.

No.
The only S&W's ever made with real stainless steel hammers and triggers were the early Model 60 and 66.

Soon after, S&W decided they didn't like the way the stainless wore, so they changed to a hard chrome plated finish on carbon steel.
Later, they stopped the plating as a cost savings.

I have seen S&W revolvers on which someone had the hammer and trigger re-plated by a non-factory plater.
This was usually after removing sharp edges on the trigger, cutting the spur off a hammer or ????.
These typically are a little shinier than the flat gray factory plating.

I also wondered about that.

Well it matches the stainless perfectly! Thats why I thought stainless. But, the hammer does look as if it has been smoothed up a bit. Also, compared to my 686-1 that is HC'd, it has a tinge of darkness where the lockbar thing is. Very similar to my case hardened hammers, the 686-1 has no such darkness and many miles. It's a good chrome job if thats what it is! It looks like it just might be. Did or does Magna Port do any such mods?
Thanks,E.

Can't tell from pictures.

Typical S&W factory hard chromed hammers and triggers have a flat gray color that looks more like the bead blasted areas on the top strap and barrel rib.

After market hard chrome often has a slightly shiny, more stainless steel look.
