The only S&W's ever made with real stainless steel hammers and triggers were the early Model 60 and 66.
Soon after, S&W decided they didn't like the way the stainless wore, so they changed to a hard chrome plated finish on carbon steel.
Later, they stopped the plating as a cost savings.
I have seen S&W revolvers on which someone had the hammer and trigger re-plated by a non-factory plater.
This was usually after removing sharp edges on the trigger, cutting the spur off a hammer or ????.
These typically are a little shinier than the flat gray factory plating.
