Stainless Steel Guide Rod for the Shield

This is the second thread I have read on this guide rod springs advertising.

1. There is no plastic in the Shield guide rod spring assembly.

2. If your having a problem with the guide rod assembly, contact S&W and they will likely send you a new set.

3. The price is very high and what will it improve?

3. Is always my question too. What is wrong with the original? Why change it?

For $25 the rod should have a new spring installed. Not re use the customers old spring. I like the idea of the stainless rod, but not just the rod at that price. Pass

I was just lookingoing at these on amazon. Part of the description reads,
"Replacing your factory hollow steel guide rod with a solid stainless steel guide rod adds extra weight under the barrel. This can help reduce recoil, which in turn equals less muzzle climb when rapid firing. We are introducing our unique design with a single spring and our custom designed washer that will not allow the spring to ride over the head of the captive screw, making our design a TRUE captive stainless steel guide rod. Made in the U.S.A."
I'll get it and let you all know if it makes a difference.

I have the performance center and it says it's not for use in them?

I saw that also, I asked them about it, and the response was they had a customer who had an issue, so they put that on the site until they are sure. I'm pretty sure both standard and PC, Shields use the same guide rod and spring (They look the same to me), but I can't verify that for certain/

I bought a SS rod for my Shield 9mm PC. Far easier to rack the slide. I've put @150 round thru it since installing it and no issues so far.

That might be worth the price alone. Damn... those slides are stiff.

The website says "NOT recommended for your with +p ammo". If that's the case I don't understand how the same spring can work for the .40 Shield if it can't handle 9mm +p.

Just got one in the mail today, no chance to shoot it yet, but it racks a lot easier. 5/13/2017 Finally got the Shield out to shoot. Seemed to be a little less recoil, no problems with 50 rounds . My buddy has a 9 mm Shield so we tried it in his with the same results. Think I will put one in my daughters 40 Shield.

Please, please give us a shooting report when you get the chance! I just ordered one this morning after shooting my new Shield 9 yesterday and experiencing the lock back issue. Would love to know how the stainless guide rod performs.

Ive been using for about a year. Definitely makes improvement on slide raking ease. I primarily bought it as a back up to my stock rsa, but I left it in after testing. I definitely see at least a significant improvement on racking ease, recoil......questionable. I was paranoid about my stock assembly because of issues at time of my shield 9 manufacturing. No problems through this piece throu 500+ rounds of various rounds 115-150. Love my shield 9, but unfortunately it still grab 9c outta safe 75% of the time.

It says it IS for the performance model on their website right now

I hope all you folks putting lighter springs in your shield to "make it easier to rack" realize that if you then shoot +P ammo in your gun, you are going to batter the dickens out of your frame. And your aftermarket supplier isn't going to pay for the damage, because "you didn't heed their warning."
