I was given a Star Universal with a 38 spl. & 45 acp shell plate. It came with usual accessories. Now my question, will it load consistent loads good enough for match competition? Talking about 148 gr. HBWC with 2.8 gr. Bullseye. Powder slide is marked 2.7 BE, but thats close enough. Thanks

The 2.7 bullseye load is the right load. I've been loading with Stars for 40 years, they are the best. have several.

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to send it to me to try out first. Safety, friend, always, safety first.

I will evaluate it for a year or two and then let you know! :)

Good for you. Load away. Do me a favor though, make sure you check the powder weight via scale before you seat any bullets. Lots of things may have bumped against that measure along the way or maybe an inquisitive individual and it isn't still set to what it once was.

Have fun, be safe!

Yes, Yes send to me I'll even pay shipping and check your STAR for fit and function. Just kidding. This is a great tool. Have loaded many thousands of rounds on one, with no problems. Just don't get ahead of yourself by trying to load quickly. I am jealous.

Yours was a gift. Mine was close. When I walked into a small gunshow, I spotted a Star. I must have looked shocked when the $35 price was stated. The owner quickly added that it included an extra tool head. I traded the extra tool head for a Model 19 S&W. Don't have a day like that very often.

It's not every day you get a $1000 press for free. You should do something very nice for the person who gave you such an expensive and high quality gift.

I have, he sell lawn tractors and I send all my hunting buddies and friends to him. He is doing great. Thanks to all for your input.

Star make the best reloaders. I build all my precision target
ammo with them (.38SPL and 9mm).

Try to get a tiny vaccum cleaner to suck up any powder spills on the base& shell plate.:)

You have acquired the top of the line reloader and it has been top of the line for over 50 years. Many Police departments reload all their practice ammo on them. I would bet if you questioned the competitors at Camp Perry, in excess of half of them build their loads on a Star.
