We recently received a gift from one of our friends. It is a Hamilton Beach electric glass kettle. It worked OK for a few months and then the mesh strainer broke. OK - not an integral part but I figured I'd contact them to get a replacement under warranty. Guess what?!

I tried to email them - their website is broken. I tried calling - I only got a recording telling me to email them, HA. I tried to search out another number or email address - no luck. I even tried searching the internet so I could just buy a replacement - they don't sell any!

I will just use the kettle until that breaks and be done with Hamilton Beach! They obviously don't give a damn about their customer service or their customers. Just a fair warning, Hamilton Beach (like so many other old main-stay company's) is NOT the company we grew up with!!

I guess we really do live in a disposable world!

One of my favorite quotes is Voice mail or Email is just a good excuse to never return a query. Most times if you do not talk to a human your problem/situation is yours to fix!

Good luck Chief!

Did you try contacting them through their website?

From Wikipedia: "Since the 2000s, all of Hamilton Beach's appliances have been manufactured by subcontractors in China."

Yes - EVERYTHING is made in China now days. STILL...... they should have a customer service number or website that actually works - they do not.

Ohio Product Law makes you deal with the store you bought it from, then major stuff goes up the food chain for lawsuits. Try CS where the gift was purchased (only try with a sales or gift receipt!) Many states are this way.

When we were married 46 years ago, we got about 4 times the minor appliances to set up housekeeping. Those that we could, we returned and used the cash to fill in the gaps. Those that were discontinued brands or from stores that had gone out of business, went into a large closet and were RE-GIFTED. We didn't buy a shower or Wedding gift for several years!

One of the shell games consumers play is (for example); Buy a nice Bunn Coffee maker at $110 in 1990, take it home place a new Mr. Coffee in the box or worse yet place your used and broken coffee maker in the box. Then return it to the store saying it ended up being a surplus gift. This happened to us on the Bunn. We were the third family that got stuck with the same machine! The Store never checked the box (the tape on the top was in good shape). When I returned it, I used a Majic Marker and ran a line through the barcode!

I tried this website 4 times - it does not work.:mad:

The website is trying to pull up your mail app. Depending on your browser and security settings, you may not be seeing the next stage of the process.

A post above shows the direct email address. Put that into your email app and send them your message.

That link is designed to create an email using your service. Links like that sometimes don't work for me either.

Try sending an email to: [email protected]

Include the model and serial number of your unit. Also include your phone number, shipping address, a description of the problem and the date and place of purchase.

I have to agree. I own an HB toaster oven and an HB toaster. I really hate them both. I would replace them but it looks like pretty much everything is made in China. One of these days I'm going to take them apart to see if all the knobs and buttons are actually connected to anything.

I guess consumers have always flocked to lower priced goods and while many complain of cheap Chinese poorly made products, most are just not willing to pony up for the better quality products. Therefore the company's who make the better stuff either have to go out of business or resort to having their stuff made in China as well. A sad vicious cycle.

Paying American's descent wages, healthcare, retirement benefits, paid leave and sick days costs lots of money - many are not willing to pay.

Yes we do. One of my father's cousins opened an appliance repair store after World War II, and made his living repairing toasters, mixers, irons, blenders, etc. I don't know that those things can even be repaired these days...

They can probably be repaired...at three times the cost of a new one.:p

I 've had a "Mister Coffee" for many years. I've yet to get a great cup of coffee from it. Sometimes I wish it would die only to justify throwing it in the trash.

Been through two Keurig machines. Good coffee but high maintenance. Neither lasted long enough to warrant getting another one.

Bought a Hamilton Beach electric can opener. It's the kind that cuts the top off without leaving sharp edges. I would be happy if just once it actually cut the lid off. The only can it worked on already had a pull tab to open the top.

Now we have all those "As seen on TV" products with a one year warranty. A call for warranty service might go as follows...

Customer: I bought this $15 flashlight six months ago and the USB cord to charge it no longer works. Can you help me?

CSR: I'm not sure I can help you. You're the first person to ever call with an issue. Most people just throw them away when they break.

It isn't just the dollar that isn't worth what it once was. The quality of what is buys isn't worth the same either.

We had a large Sunbeam appliance plant several years ago in Hattiesburg, Ms. The state and local governments jumped through hoops with tax breaks and such to get them here. They were operating for only a short time and then packed up and moved to China leaving hundreds of workers unemployed and uninsured. One of our presidential candidates is 100% correct to apply tariffs to discourage companies from doing this. I would rather pay a little more for a product that is made here employing Americans and making us stronger than buy something made in China that is less in quality and has zero customer service. It would also help to lessen the tax on the corporations because the income tax generated by our workers will probably make up any difference. Our middle class is hurting. There is not much of a middle class here anymore. Many of the good jobs have gone overseas to people who don't really like us. The profits from the Chinese have mostly gone to build up their military. That may come back to bite us one day.

We had a Bissel furniture and upholstery vacuum that lasted a bit over twenty years. When it quit I grabbed the Simpson Multimeter and started from the cord working my way back. Got back as far as the motor where I hit a brick wall. Armature turned so I made an executive decision, time to replace.

Closest alleged repair shop sixty miles round trip. Multiply by two, one dropoff and one pickup and the best, even though almost all expressway travel it’s under construction so the half hour trip you better figure an hour to an hour and a half each way. And that’s even if they can or would have fixed it.

So, new one from Amazon.
