Few years ago the local state range had lots of assorted small appliances “ shot to pieces. Guess we know why….BTW there was a “ hole” dryer,lol.

I've been wanting a Spyderco knife for a while and I finally pulled the trigger . I made sure it was from the made in the U.S. line . My previous EDC was a Benchmade . I won't carry a Chinese knife , just because ....
My brother and I had started scrounging in Goodwill stores and other used good stores to find kitchen utensils that were made in this country.
My flapjacks care not where my griddle was made.

I have seen some really good deals on many household items at one of the local Goodwill stores, at least worth a look. Most of my clothing comes from there. I care little about being fashionable. Used to have lots of computers and accessories there, stopped that maybe 4-5 years ago.
Talked to a guy at Sturgis once. He told me that several years ago he got there and found out his cooking gear hadn't made the trip. He went in to the Goodwill in Rapid City and got some cheap replacements. Since then he said he doesn't even pack them. He just goes to Goodwill and buys what he needs, and donates it back before he leaves town. He told me he wasn't sure, but he thinks he got the same pan 2 years in a row.
There are still quite a few Griswold griddles from Erie, PA floating around.
That's a name I also often see on tobacco cutters in the secondhand stores I frequent.
As to griddles, I'd think it's pretty hard to make a bad one. My cast-iron frying pan is made in Taiwan and hasn't let me down so far
Kitchen appliances etc., OTOH may be another matter. And as someone mentioned above, "made in China" doesn't necessarily mean it's junk. They are quite capable of making very good products indeed- if the stateside companies ask for it. But people want to pay less, and since "the customer is always right"
, we often get what we pay for. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. But being cheaper to chuck something out (into landfill 
) and buying another one rather than being able to fix it/get replacement parts I don't like. Recycling older stull via Goodwill, Value Village etc. is something I do too, as well as buying there. I haven't bought a new pair of jeans in years.Most of us are old enough to remember when Japanese products were considered garbage, and some probably weren't all that good, but the Japanese, having a long reputation for craftsmanship, soon showed that they could play the quality game very well indeed.
Some of our irritation with Chinese products is also a matter of national pride (and I even say this as a Canadian). I like to buy made-in-USA products when possible, too. I recently bought a Lasko 20" box fan and was surprised to see it was Made in USA, especially at the price: $20 in HD. (I did buy it in WA, though, as it was $50 CDN up here, vs about $33 CDN equiv. in WA!)
As long as you also ask about legal advice, medical advice, can I carry my (insert gun) in (insert state)....
