Have your attention? Lol
I’m talking about the rubber coating on binocs, laser rangefinders, etc. Mine end up getting sticky with time. I guess it’s the slow break down of the rubber coating.
I started wrapping them with a layer of simple waxed paper before putting them back in the cases.
That stickiness is going away slowly plus it adds some waterproofing.
If you’re interested, it worked for me.

This usually happens because of an interaction with the grease from our skin. A simple cleaning before putting in storage is a simpler solution.

Some bug sprays will cause this too. I'll never forget going fishing with my buddy years ago in his brand new bass boat. The 3rd fellow along was being bothered by mosquitoes and dug out some spray. The over spray mist settled on his windshield, dash & trim, and it left tiny permanent dimples in most everything it touched on that boat.

Years later I had something similar happen to my ATV, although it wasn't new at the time. Softer rubber trim just became forever sticky. Eventually enough dirt stuck so it isn't tacky anymore, but it forever looks dirty. I can't recall the names of either, but it was common everyday bug spray.

Wonder what it really does to our skin & lungs.

It's my understanding that it's Deet in mosquito repellent that reacts with some plastics. It's a sort of secret to removing the yellow haze from plastic headlight lenses....I don't recommend it for that, however.
