school shooting solution

@ venomballistics:

You mentioned how teachers are opposed to the idea of being armed in school. I'm a retired teacher, taught almost 28 years. When I was the "Association" president, we had almost 300 teachers on staff grades K to 12. If there were more than ten of us that were Veterans, I'd be shocked! That meant that the remainder were, to some degree, a liberal. Of that 290, most would prefer the company of a pit Viper over associating with a gun owner.

Remember, most liberals believe signs and gun free zones work. They also support the beliefs that there are more than 2 genders and that men can get pregnant! Liberals tend to be more the party of mental illness enablers than anything else! With that on the table, why would anyone be surprised that teachers wouldn't want to be armed in school?

X ring ... this mimics my own observations to a great degree.
One such teacher was previously security at a nuclear site, and authorized to use deadly force. a year in as a school teacher and every single argument that applied to securing nuclear material suddenly became non applicable with living, breathing children.
I cannot even begin to figure out how that U turn happened.
Even some of those that could ..... won't.

Where are the school counselors? Aren't they supposed to have interaction with the students and evaluate them for problems and needs? You never hear about them in these situations. Teachers should be reporting concerns to the counselors and the counselors should be following up. These people have mental health training.

LOL!

They're scared of getting sued (worse) attacked themselves, IMO.

As far as I can tell, they're now just babysitters who helps kids with their pronouns, IMO.

Forget guidance counselors. At least in NJ (perhaps in other states), to become a certified guidance counselor, you DON'T need any classroom experience. Back in the late '60s and early '70s, if I saw my guidance counselor other than when I selected classes for the next school year, I was lucky. The same held true for my colleagues when I was teaching. My children rarely see their guidance counselors more than when they have to in order to pick their classes for the next year, and then they are usually given incorrect guidance!

Maybe go back to teaching kids that some things are right and some things are wrong.

A reintroduction of the concept of 'winners and losers' is also a good plan.

It strikes me that America has always been a place where most people are driven and expect to succeed. However, I feel that the overall ethos of 'more, more, more' has gone beyond what most humans can provide. This leads to two issues, frustration that the latest level of 'more' is unattainable, and fear that the ruthless corporate attitude to 'more' means that standing still is getting close to unreachable, too. The modern Western public does not do well with the thought of a reduced standard of living, so they end up wound way too tight.

This feeling transfers from the parents to the kids in schools. Success there is measured by how you look, how you dress, and are you 'in with the in crowd'. Don't have the latest Nikes? What is more acceptable, going and stealing some or admitting your family cannot afford them. As a hormoned up teenager, when none of these things are working for you, and the teasing and bullying just won't stop, you are one unsecured firearm away from dealing with it another way.

I know many here won't want to hear it, but our society needs to back off from 'more', and look a lot more about where it is now, and learn just how to 'be'.

In 1962, I was 15-years-old living in southern California. I bought a .22 bolt action rifle through the Sears catalog and had it sent to me in my name. We lived in a neighborhood of tracked homes. As a 15-year-old kid, I frequently carried my .22 through the neighborhood walking to where I could hunt rabbit. Walked home often with a rabbit or two on my belt. Nobody saw that as abnormal or gave it a second thought.

If that were to happen today.....?!?! I have no idea what to do about these school shootings that would truly correct this sickness. And honestly, it seems nobody else does either.

A bit of humor to lighten up.

I'm a bird hunter.
I was asked by a lady at church in the most sincere tone, "John, why do you kill those little quail?"
In the most sincere tone, I replied, "Mary Ann, the reason I kill those little quail is because my wife absolutely refuses to eat them while they're still alive."
Mary Ann whacked me on the shoulder.

God bless,
John T.

There are huge gaps in that philosophy.

In some inner-city cultures, it's acceptable to steal anything not nailed down. They're (the adults) are ok with that.

In heavily Muslim areas, women are considered property, must be covered & can't go out w/o a male relative. The adults there are ok with that too.

Now, how fast do you think the ACLU would file suit were something like you desire were to be implemented?

Do you want a pink/purple haired, rainbow flag flying teacher telling your kids what morals to follow? I have no kids, but I believe I'd pass on that one.

The only solution I see is to expand both charter schools & school vouchers. Until the current teachers' unions are broken in power, you're going to have more & more of the same, IMO.
