Well, I've got a replacement spring, but I still can't figure out how this thing goes in.

Here are pictures of what I have...

Also, should the smaller pin on th ehand be slightly canted?

Hi Rolan,

Unless Smith has changed the design of that hand torsion spring, I don't believe it is correctly configured. All of the MIM triggers I've worked on use a torsion spring that has both ends as straight, with one end being shorter. The shorter end slips into a small notch and the wound coils rest against a radial recess just above the trigger return lever.

When you get the correct spring, pull the hand out of the trigger and you'll see the hole. Short end of the spring goes there. Push the long end up and slide the hand into place.

Hey Rolan,
Maybe this will help some.

Of course this is the old type that goes on a pin, but it still lay's in there the same way.

Rolan here's a pic from Pg 5 of the FAQs that show well how the spring looks installed in the trigger with the hand..

I removed the hand from a MIM Trigger "ONCE" & had a similar experience, except I was able to find the spring on my bench..
All my other S&Ws have that spring captive in the trigger via a pin..
Get the right part from S&W & you'll be just fine RK..
I used that very pic of 500 Magnum Nuts to know I was putting my 642-2 back together right..
See Ya Soon..

Thanks for all the help guys. The new, correct, spring is installed and working fine.

I really appreciate your help. I couldn't have done it without you.

Thanks again.
