Still shortages

I predict this will all pass in a year or two. We just need to patience to wait this out.

I love optimism. Not sure it will be that soon but we can always hope. I feel for you young folk. At 75 I'm stocked to the gills. Plan ahead. Way ahead the way things are going.

I visited my favorite LGS during my lunch break today. They have a lot of black rifles (at least 30-40 hanging on the walls), hunting rifles, fewer shotguns but still several and about 25% of what handguns they normally carry.

Ammo is very low in supply and way high in price. (I say it's way high, but as a reloader I seldom price it) They have a limit of 100 rounds per visit. No 22's LR/WMR, random handgun calibers stocked (mostly 10mm) and some expensive shotgun shells. The 10mm FMJ was about $45 bucks, $35 for 9mm, one lonely box of 45 colt for almost $50 bucks. I just looked.

Zero primers 3 cans of powder I've never used, a lot of .223 FMJ bullets at $17 per hundred and some random oddball bullets & brass. Archery dept. was well stocked with bows & arrows of all kind. Used gun supply was lower than usual.

So yes, shortages are not as bad in firearms as before and the ammo is trickling in, but not enough to drop prices. Gun prices are about the same as before (black rifles a little higher I think).

I'll look again at the end of next month, as I didn't see any reason to go back any sooner. (Unless I pick up a range membership there........ didn't hear any muffled booms from there today)

I scored primers 2 days ago at a local shop for $59 per 1000. CCI lg and sm pistol. Powder is starting to trickle in at the small shops. Been finding bullets here and there on line. Xtreme and some coated lead for the 9mm and 45. Stocked up for the rifles.

Is anyone else being asked by your shooting buddies for ammo? It's probably my own fault for not educating them that reloads aren't actually free. Apparently that idea is floating around; at least floating around me and I like to think I choose my friends well.

Don't mind doing a favor for a friend but... Got one bud who wants to "get into reloading" due to the current circumstances. I counseled that it was not a "great" time to begin this particular hobby. Then he wants to know if I can supply him with a good starter of all the components he'll need. There's enough in the man cave for my needs but I'm not a pre-pandemic Cabela's.

I have friends who routinely hand over gallon baggies of range brass I can, and do, use. They get a box of freshly minted ammo every so often as a thank-you.

How does it work for y'all?

I haven't been shooting for a year now. My loading presses have been idle that long. I used to shoot 2-3 times/week plus a weekly competition. Don't even know if the indoor range is having any competitions now. I do have some supplies, primers just can't be replaced; so I'm holding on to what I have for a little longer.

If anything I may shoot up some of my 22 LR and maybe some shotshells. I sure hope primers make a come back, so I can feel comfortable shooting centerfire pistol again.
